HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I - FULL-TIMEThe Town of Belchertown is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator I to operate heavy motor equipment and perform manual work assisting in construction, maintenance and repair projects of the public works department.Major duties include: Assists with street maintenance and repair projects by performing manual work and operating most public works department equipment. Operates heavy equipment and light equipment of moderate complexity; operates front-end loaders, backhoes, heavy dump trucks, sweepers, light tractors, jack hammers, small rollers, and roadside mowers; operates vehicles providing roadway snow removal and deicing. Inspects equipment for safety; lubricates and makes minor adjustments to the equipment as necessary; Assists the Mechanic/Truck Driver in servicing automotive equipment as necessary. Sweeps sidewalks and roads, rakes and mows lawns; pickups and hauls debris and rubbish; shovels snow; Makes, repairs, and installs street signs. Assists other town departments; installs water lines; assists in construction/maintenance projects within the wastewater treatment plant. May be called to work at the Transfer Station and Parks DivisionMinimum qualifications: High school graduation; one year of experience in highway construction including heavy automotive equipment operation; or any equivalent combination.Special Requirements:Possession of a valid MA Class B Commercial Driver's License.Possession of a valid MA Hoisting Engineer License, 2A.This is a Grade 5 IUOE Local 98 union position with a salary range of $23.25-$30.65/hour, 40 hours per week.Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.The Town of Belchertown is an EEO employer, we encourage women, minorities and veterans to apply.
