With nearly four decades of service, the organization remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and advocating for their rights.Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site position for an Independent Living Specialist, located in Yonkers, NY. The Independent Living Specialist will provide direct support and advocacy to individuals with disabilities, assisting them in achieving greater independence through individualized plans. Daily tasks include conducting needs assessments, connecting consumers with community resources, providing information and assistance on housing, transportation, and benefits, and facilitating workshops on independent living skills. The role also involves advocating for policy changes, documenting consumer progress, and collaborating with community partners to address accessibility and inclusion challenges.QualificationsStrong advocacy and case management skills, with experience in supporting people with disabilitiesExcellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgroundsAbility to conduct needs assessments, develop action plans, and track progress to ensure consumer successKnowledge of community resources, housing assistance, and public benefits is highly beneficialProficiency with documentation, record-keeping, and basic computer skills, including Microsoft OfficeCommitment to promoting independence, equity, and rights for individuals with disabilitiesBachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experienceFamiliarity with Westchester County and transportation resources is a plusMust own transportation, Have valid driver's license and willing to travel in Westchester County
