As our Rapid Prototyping Intern, you will be at the center of this effort — helping us quickly iterate on enclosures, mounts, optical elements, and assemblies to advance the product from concept to testable prototype. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who is equally comfortable in front of a CAD program and behind a machine. You will work closely with our engineering and research teams to translate device requirements into physical prototypes, test them, and iterate. About Edulis Labs Edulis Labs is a California-based, VC-backed materials science startup reinventing hair color and bleaching chemistry. Based at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, we integrate cutting-edge research across materials science, chemistry, and biology to build translational technology that displaces today's destructive legacy approaches. What You’ll Do Design and fabricate enclosures, housings, and mechanical assemblies for LED photochemical devices using 3D printing (FDM/SLA) and CNC machining. Operate laser cutters, and other digital fabrication tools to produce prototype components. Translate conceptual designs into manufacturable parts using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks). Collaborate with researchers and engineering partners to understand optical, thermal, and electronic integration requirements and reflect them in prototype geometry. Rapidly iterate on form factor and functionality based on testing feedback. Assist with basic electronic assembly, wiring, and soldering of LED driver components and control electronics. Maintain organized documentation of design versions, fabrication settings, and iteration notes. Required Qualifications Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Demonstrated hands-on experience with 3D printing (FDM and/or resin/SLA). Experience with CNC machining (milling, routing, or turning). Proficiency with at least one CAD/CAM software platform (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, or equivalent). Experience with laser cutters or other digital fabrication tools. Ability to read and produce engineering drawings and toleranced part specifications. Preferred Qualifications Soldering experience — through-hole and/or SMD — and basic electronics assembly. Familiarity with LED driver circuits, thermal management, or optical design considerations. Experience prototyping enclosures or devices with embedded electronics. Graduate students with project or thesis experience in device fabrication are strongly encouraged to apply.
