* THIS IS A 12 WEEK (60 DAY) ASSIGNMENT. AUGUST 31, 2026- NOVEMBER 30, 2026.POSITION OVERVIEW:The role of the High School Counselor is to provide counseling services to students and families on academic, personal/social, and vocational matters. Under this umbrella, a school counselor counsels, consults, coordinates, and collaborates with students, families, and school staff to (1) support personal growth and healthy development of the student; (2) monitor high school academic planning and achievement, and (3) support post-secondary opportunities and goals.It is the responsibility of the School Counselor to continually evaluate and improve the comprehensive and developmental school counseling program and delivery of services as needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Establish trusting counseling relationships with students that focus on problem-solving, healthy decision making, and discovering a personal meaning related to learning and developmentProvide developmental, systematic and crisis counseling for students on an ongoing basis.Consult and collaborate with faculty, families, administrators, and/or community agencies to help resolve student problems interfering with the academic, social, emotional and personal needs of students and families.Plan systematic interventions in the form of classroom programs, small groups, and individual meetings that address the diverse developmental needs of students.Utilize student data to implement, enhance, and evaluate the comprehensive school counseling program.Monitor students' academic progress, graduation requirements, and post-graduate objectives.Advise students and families on all post-secondary planning and opportunities.Write letters of recommendation for college-bound seniors and process all required paperwork.Utilize technology and improve computer competency system to schedule students' programs of study, to assist students in academic planning and post-secondary goals and to more efficiently access information and advise students.Devise and implement workshops in the areas of academic, social, collegiate, and vocational opportunities for students and families Serve on the Child Study Team to identify struggling students and institute appropriate action plans.Chair Section 504 Determination Eligibility Meetings, write Section 504 Plans, and follow established school protocol for maintaining Section 504 Plans.Consult with Special Education personnel regarding psychological assessments and advocate for services for students on Individualized Educational Plans.Contribute to the Departmental website, newsletters and other communication tools.Administer and utilize personality, career, and learning style inventories with students to help facilitate personal goals.Continually update professional knowledge and counseling skills and techniques and integrate new techniques, skills and information based on effective research practices.Contribute to the professional library of school counseling-related resources through data collection, sharing of information, staying current of all post-secondary options, and professional development.Assist in the development and implementation of Educational Proficiency Plans (EPPs) and other MCAS-driven initiatives.Secure and maintain student records in keeping current with federal and state regulations.Register new students by collecting appropriate documentation, taking educational histories, developing student course schedules, helping them make a positive transition to the high school.Facilitate the transfer and withdrawal of students. Conduct or provide opportunities for parent education programs, including but not limited to: post-secondary planning, college admissions, transition to the high school, financial assistance workshops, social health programs.Schedule students programs of study through collaboration and consultation with families and staff in course selection and curriculum orientation.Assist students in making the transition from school to school, school to work and/or post secondary high school education and training.Whenever possible, voluntarily serve on committees or advisory boards in the school community to enrich the school programs and to advocate for the comprehensive school counseling program.Display professional behavior and maintain counseling relationships consistent with the nationally established ethical set forth by the Massachusetts School Counseling Association and the American School Counseling Association.Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal and/or Department Chairperson for Guidance, Testing, and Career Services, as appropriate.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of those in this classification.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's in Education from a school accredited by the Department of Education.Massachusetts Teacher's Certification (DESE).A minimum of three year's of post-Master's experience, including at least 1-2 years of school system experience preferred.LICSW/LMHC or LICSW/LMHC eligible and working with a licensed clinical supervisor.Possess those personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:* Master's Degree in Education from a school accredited by the Department of Education.TERMS: This is a 10 month, 1.0 FTE position with a teacher's contract.
