This position supports a mission-critical federal enterprise integration environment operating middleware services processing tens of millions of transactions monthly. Position Overview Job Type: Full-Time Location: Remote (U.S.) with occasional on-site meetings in the Washington, DC area Target Salary Range: $160,000 – $185,000 / year (Note: Final offer is subject to candidate experience and expectations) Position Contingency: Contingent upon contract award (Anticipated award: September 2026; Estimated start date: November 17, 2026) As our Senior Java Integration Engineer, you will serve as the senior technical resource sustaining IBM webMethods-based integration services while leading their progressive modernization to Java/Spring Boot microservices on OpenShift. Key Responsibilities Middleware Engineering: Design, develop, troubleshoot, and sustain enterprise middleware, ESB flows, adapters, and REST/SOAP interfaces. Modernization Execution: Lead modernization work packages decomposing legacy webMethods patterns into performant Java/Spring Boot microservices on OpenShift. Interface Continuity: Maintain strict consumer/provider interface compatibility during dual-run migration waves. Platform Currency: Support runtime upgrades, SSL certificate updates, credential rotations, and dependency remediation. Documentation & Review: Produce detailed design specifications, developer validation evidence, and release packages while mentoring team members. Qualifications & Requirements Experience: At least 8 years of enterprise integration or middleware engineering experience. At least 4 years of hands-on IBM webMethods experience (Integration Server, ESB flows, adapters). At least 4 years of Java / Spring Boot microservice development experience. Technical Expertise: RESTful and SOAP web services, JSON/XML processing, message routing, and file transfer patterns. OpenShift or Kubernetes containerized deployment patterns. AppDynamics, ELK log analysis, and secure coding practices. Clearance & Security: Must possess U.S. work authorization. Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Moderate Risk Public Trust (MBI level) background investigation.
