Description The Department of Medicine is seeking a Staff Research Associate IIIto support a growing portfolio of biomedical research projects. Due to increasing laboratory demands and current staff capacity, this position is being added to provide advanced technical support and ensure the continued progress of ongoing studies. The SRA III will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to assist with complex laboratory experiments and day-to-day research operations.
Responsibilities include performing and overseeing advanced laboratory techniques, supporting experimental design and data collection, and helping maintain efficient laboratory workflows. The SRA III will also contribute to maintaining compliance with institutional safety standards, animal research protocols, and laboratory regulations, while helping coordinate laboratory activities to support the research team and ensure projects move forward efficiently. Annual range: $71,848.08-$115,549.92 Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree and/or Masters Degree in the Biological Sciences and or equivalent combination of educaiton & experience At least 2.5 years of basic biomedical research experience. Expertise with confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, dual axis electron tomography, immunogold electron microscopy
Must be experienced in using mouse models for physiologic experiments. Mouse handling and sacrifice. Mouse perfusion and tissue harvest.
Ability to work as a team and work independently with minimal direction.
Demonstrated skills in PC computers, MS word, Excel, and PowerPoint internet, Photoshop, Illustrator
Skills to obtain or convey clear information at various organizational levels.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
Experience with animal dissection and perfusion
Ability to prepare block faces for sectioning using a glass and diamond knife Experience with cloning and basic molecular biology techniques (westerns, immunofluorescence, transfections. Preparation of block faces for sectioning with Glass and Diatome Diamond Knife
Ability to shift priorities and adapt to changes.
Experience in preparing samples for EM (must handle hazardous chemicals such as osmium tetroxide, uranyl acetate safely)
Understanding of University procedures and policies for working with biohazard, radioactive and hazardous chemicals, and their disposal.
Expertise with electron microscopy, transmission and scanning
Strong interpersonal skills for interaction to communicate
