Process Engineer - DOE/Nuclear

Job Details: Position: Senior Engineer - Process Engineer - DOE/Nuclear Location: Central, South Carolina, United States (Hybrid) Duration: 12+ Months contract with possible extension Business Travel Justification: Travel is required on a quarterly basis to support in-person meetings, workshops, and classified network access. Up to 90% remote. 10% On-site. Local candidates or willing to relocate at the candidate's expense. Duties Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using systems and meeting requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accepts complex tasks and receives minimal guidance from senior professionals. Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals. Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems. Develop alternate solutions to existing problems. Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions. Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment. May delegate portions of the detail work to less senior personnel. Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles. Education: In applicable science or engineering discipline entry level PhD degree, MS degree with 2-4 years experience; or BS and 5-10 years experience. Experience/Skills: Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniques; has working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications Additional Experience Qualifications Ten (10) years DOE, DOD or NRC nuclear experience commensurate with education criteria. (Preferred) Ten (10) years process engineering experience on nuclear projects at DOE and/or other DOE facilities. (Preferred) Ten (10) years of experience on Pu processing and manufacturing technology. (Preferred) Demonstrate prior operations experience at DOE facilities. (Preferred) Preferred Qualifications Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred. Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. DOE utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes DOE holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Please note – Travel cannot take place until it has been approved by procurement via a fully funded requisition and added to the Task Order Authorization. A justification, travel locations, estimated cost, and dates of travel must be provided prior to procurement approval. DOE will not reimburse for travel to conferences or trainings. Please remember, all rates are fully burdened and should include all costs outside of direct business travel.
