Volunteer: Strategic Advisor: Corporate Partnerships and Capital Campaign Positioning for a Children’s Campus in Kenya

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.Opportunity Summary Dorcas Destiny International seeks a seasoned volunteer advisor with demonstrated success securing major corporate partnerships, shaping capital campaigns, and/or attracting institutional funding to help position a transformational children’s home project for larger-scale philanthropic investment. We are looking less for traditional fundraising help and more for strategic counsel from someone who understands how projects become fundable at a significant level. Our organization is entering a milestone season: after eight years of serving vulnerable children and families in Kenya, we are preparing for our first owned residential campus serving 36 children already in our care network. We would value a professional who can help us strengthen the funding strategy behind that vision. This is not a request for general fundraising help, but for strategic pro bono support to help position this project for larger-scale philanthropic and corporate investment. We are seeking support with one or more of the following deliverables: Primary Deliverables - Develop a capital campaign case for support for use with major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations - Create a target prospect list of 25–50 aligned corporate and foundation funding prospects (with emphasis on Chicagoland and national prospects, if appropriate) - Recommend a corporate sponsorship strategy, including sponsorship levels and funding packages - Help shape key campaign messaging and value propositions tailored to institutional funders Optional / Depending on Volunteer Expertise - - Review and strengthen grant positioning for institutional funders - Advise on a grant prospecting strategy and/or assist with one strong sample proposal or proposal framework - Provide outreach tools such as sponsor approach templates or funder pitch language Ideal Volunteer Background We would especially value a professional who has experience with: - Securing significant corporate sponsorships - Leading or advising capital campaigns - Foundation fundraising and institutional grants - Major gift strategy and case development Experience helping early-stage organizations position transformative projects for larger funding is especially welcome. Why This Project Matters This will be a milestone project in our organization’s eighth year and represents a major expansion of impact. Unlike schools we have supported previously, this will be our first wholly developed residential project. Importantly, this is not a concept-stage idea: - We are already feeding the 36 children this project is intended to serve - Our Kenya-based team is advancing foundational planning and programming - We are seeking expert support to strengthen the funding strategy needed to move toward implementation Proposed Strategic Deliverables We are seeking guidance in several focused areas: - Capital Campaign Positioning - Help shape a compelling campaign case designed to resonate with larger funders, corporate partners, and philanthropic investors - Advise on framing this project for a multi-phase capital campaign Corporate Partnership Strategy - Help identify and prioritize high-potential corporate sponsorship or strategic partnership prospects Advise on partnership models, sponsorship architecture, and major funding approaches Institutional Funding Readiness - Strengthen positioning for foundation and grant opportunities - Advise on funder messaging and proposal strategy - (Optional) Review or help shape one flagship grant concept or proposal framework Practical Deliverables - Prospect target recommendations (25–50 aligned prospects) - Messaging framework/case for support - Outreach or pitch templates for institutional or corporate approaches Ideal Volunteer Background We would especially value someone with experience such as: - Leading or advising six- or seven-figure capital campaigns Securing major corporate sponsorships or strategic partnerships Foundation/institutional grant strategy at scale Major gift or campaign counsel for nonprofit growth initiatives Experience helping emerging organizations become “investment ready” would be especially valuable. Why This Project Is Compelling This is not a hypothetical project. - We are already feeding the 36 children this future home is intended to serve - Our Kenya-based team is advancing groundwork and program planning - We have operating mission traction; what we need is help strengthening the funding architecture for scale This is an opportunity to help shape a project at an inflection point. What Success Could Look Like By the close of this project, we hope to have: - A stronger capital campaign strategy - A prioritized corporate/foundation prospect pathway - Sharper positioning for major funding conversations - Practical tools to support implementation Summary -- 1. Craft a compelling narrative that articulates the 'why' behind this project. 2. Develop key messaging tailored for US-based donors, corporations, and foundations. 3. Consolidate our mission, project goals, and impact data into a 2-3 page foundational Case for Support document. This project represents a significant milestone in advancing our mission. In our eighth year of serving vulnerable children and families in Kenya, this would be our first owned residential care initiative—building on years of direct service and expanding our impact from supporting existing schools to establishing a long-term model of care of our own. Developing strong sponsorship and funding strategy will help position this project to provide far more than shelter. It supports our mission by helping create a pathway for vulnerable children to access safety, stability, care, education, and opportunity in a sustained and dignified environment. The expertise contributed through this project can help strengthen the funding foundation for a model designed to transform the lives of 36 children initially, with the potential to grow well beyond them over time. In that way, this work supports not only an immediate fundraising goal, but the long-term expansion and sustainability of our mission.Support for the Volunteer - Our team will provide: - Responsive collaboration - Access to project materials and organizational context - Timely feedback and decision-making - Commitment to implementing strong recommendationsDorcas Destiny International Mission: To provide tangible, physical, financial, academic/educational, health/hygiene, and human resources to support children and women in Kenya East Africa.
