Senior Design Evaluation Engineer - Analog Power ICs (Post‑Silicon Validation)Location: Durham, North Carolina (Research Triangle Park)Work Type: Full-time, On-site (lab-based / in-office)About Analog DevicesAnalog Devices (ADI) designs and manufactures industry-leading analog, mixed-signal, and power management solutions that bridge the physical and digital worlds. ADI technologies enable breakthroughs across automotive, industrial, communications, instrumentation, and other high-impact markets.Role OverviewAnalog Devices (RTP - Durham, NC) is seeking a Senior Design Evaluation Engineer to own and drive post-silicon validation for advanced analog power ICs (buck, boost, buck-boost, LDO, PMIC). This is a lab-centric, hands-on role for an experienced engineer who thrives in experimental environments, excels at debugging complex silicon/system interactions, and enjoys building robust measurement and automation solutions. This position is focused on post-silicon characterization and validation-partnering closely with IC Design, Test Engineering, and Applications teams to ensure devices meet performance, robustness, and usability expectations prior to release. While you will collaborate cross-functionally, this is not an IC design role and not a customer-facing applications role; your primary impact is internal product validation and technical risk reduction. What You’ll DoOwn Post‑Silicon Validation Programs (Senior Scope)Lead end-to-end validation of power ICs, from initial silicon bring-up through characterization, debug, and readiness for product release.Define comprehensive evaluation strategies and execution plans, ensuring the right coverage, repeatability, and technical rigor for complex devices and use cases.Drive technical priorities, quality, and schedule for evaluation deliverables with minimal supervision.Hands‑On Lab Characterization & DebugExecute lab measurements across key performance dimensions including efficiency, transient response, EMI, thermal behavior, and reliability-oriented stress testing.Perform deep waveform and noise analysis (switching behavior, loop response indicators, ripple/noise characterization), using advanced measurement methodologies to isolate subtle issues.Troubleshoot complex silicon and system-level anomalies; drive structured root-cause analysis and coordinate resolution with Design, Test, and Applications stakeholders.Leverage Scalable Automation & Measurement InfrastructureUtilize and extend existing automated test frameworks (e.g., Python, C#) to execute characterization, validation, and regression testing efficiently.Develop and maintain reusable measurement scripts, test modules, and standardized procedures within established automation environments to improve repeatability and coverage.Adapt existing data collection and analysis pipelines to support new devices, test conditions, and validation objectives.Apply and reinforce best practices for automation quality, including maintainability, version control, calibration awareness, documentation, and test traceability.Collaborate with team members to continuously improve automation workflows and ensure consistent usage across evaluation programs.Evaluation Hardware & Platform EnablementDesign, Review and guide PCB schematic/layout for evaluation platforms with strong emphasis on power layout best practices, signal integrity, and measurement fidelity.Support bring-up and refinement of evaluation boards/test fixtures to ensure they represent real-world conditions and enable accurate characterization.Communicate Results & Influence DecisionsDocument evaluation methods, results, correlations, and conclusions in clear technical reports.Present findings to cross-functional global teams; provide actionable recommendations that influence design decisions, test strategies, and product readiness assessments.Mentor & Raise Team CapabilityMentor junior engineers on lab methodology, debugging approach, and automation practices.Help establish consistent evaluation workflows and continuous improvement across lab operations. What Success Looks Like (First 6-12 Months)You independently run validation for one or more devices or major blocks, delivering high-quality characterization data and clear conclusions. You reduce cycle time or improve coverage through automation improvements adopted by the wider team. You identify and drive closure on key technical risks early (silicon issues, measurement gaps, or platform limitations).Stakeholders rely on your reports and recommendations to make confident product decisions. What We’re Looking ForRequired QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (power electronics or analog specialization preferred).Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor design evaluation / validation / characterization (or closely related lab-centric roles).Strong understanding of power converter topologies and system-level power management concepts.Advanced proficiency with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, SMUs, electronic loads, EMI analyzers, and thermal equipment/chambers.Strong background in test automation and scripting using Python, C#, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or C/C++.Proven ability to communicate clearly and influence cross-functional technical decisions through data, logic, and strong documentation.Preferred QualificationsExperience validating power ICs such as buck/boost controllers or converters, LDOs, PMICs, and related mixed-signal interfaces.Demonstrated ability to design/maintain scalable automation frameworks (not just single-use scripts).PCB hardware design experience and familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., Cadence preferred).Prior leadership in mentoring, technical ownership, or driving lab process improvements. Why Join ADI (RTP - Durham)Work hands-on with cutting-edge power ICs and directly impact product robustness and customer success through rigorous validation.Collaborate with global design and product teams across the US, Europe, and Asia.Grow your technical leadership in post-silicon validation, automation, and measurement methodology within a culture that values engineering excellence and initiative.Ready to Make an Impact?Apply at analog.com/careersKeywords: Design Evaluation Engineer, Post-Silicon Validation, Power IC Characterization, Hardware Validation, Test Automation, Power Electronics, Evaluation PlatformsFor positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
