Nurse Assisting Teacher

DescriptionThe Nassau BOCES Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs (RSIP) is seeking a New York State Certified Nurse Assisting teacher to support the In-District CTE program at Valley Stream. The successful candidate will teach Nursing Assisting to high school students in a high school career setting. Topics covered by the teacher include infection control, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, measuring and recording vitals, nutrition and fluids, growth and development, geriatrics, CPR, First Aid, and common health issues. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Preparing course outlines, detailed lesson plans, and extensive hands-on instruction to prepare students to take the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) exam at the end of the two-year programStaying up to date with industry innovations and evolving job requirements, ensuring the curriculum reflects current market demands and equips students with skills valued by prospective employersUtilizing technology as part of the instruction to enhance the educational settingManaging a classroom environment appropriately and being responsible for meeting each student's individual needsEvaluating and assessing each student's performance, knowledge, and skills as part of record keeping dutiesIncorporating nursing assistant skills and processes into classroom and clinical lessonsSupervising students in a clinical rotation at hospitals/nursing homesCommunicating with local healthcare facilities to provide clinical experiences for studentsMaintaining inventory of classroom supplies, and following re-ordering policies and proceduresRequirementsNew York State Education Department Certification: Nurse's Assisting 7-12.A valid New York State Office of Professions Registered Professional Nurse license.Experience must include, but is not limited to, working as a nurse in the care of chronically ill or elderly patients in a long-term care/skilled nursing facility.Possess a strong background in 21st century healthcare.SALARY: As per labor contract.Non-Discrimination StatementThe Nassau BOCES offers employment and educational opportunities without regard to age, color, creed, disability, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military/veteran status, national origin, predisposing genetic characteristics, race, religion (including religious practice and/or expression), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition), sexual orientation or victim of domestic violence status.
