Systems Engineer III

Job Summary:Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer III to join their team! This position is located in Denver, Colorado.We are seeking a Systems Engineer III to serve as a subject matter expert in DNS within our high-velocity lab environment. This role is responsible for the ownership, maintenance, and technical evolution of DNS infrastructure, ensuring the agility and stability required for complex research and development.Duties:Own and manage lab DNS/DHCP/IPAM (DDI) services, including configuration, proactive monitoring, and high-tier troubleshootingArchitect and implement automated DNS workflows using Terraform, Ansible, or Python to support ephemeral lab deployments and CI/CD pipelinesManage IP address space allocation (IPAM) across disparate lab segments to prevent overlaps and ensure accurate resource trackingIntegrate DNS resolution across hybrid-cloud environments, ensuring seamless connectivity between on-premises hardware and public cloud instancesSupport network-level services such as PXE boot, DHCP Relay, and SRV record management for specialized lab equipment and application testingConfigure and maintain DNS security features, including DNSSEC and Response Policy Zones (RPZ), to support security research and hardened test environmentsPerform deep-packet analysis using tools like Wireshark or tcpdump to resolve complex resolution issues within non-standard network topologiesLead DNS-related infrastructure projects, from initial capacity planning to the decommissioning of legacy lab systemsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to provide customized DNS solutions for high-performance computing and low-latency application testingDrive the adoption of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) best practices to ensure repeatable and version-controlled DNS configurationsProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers regarding DNS protocols and systems administration Desired Skills/Experience:4+ years of hands-on experience managing and maintaining enterprise or lab-grade DNS environmentsStrong mastery of DNS architecture, recursive versus authoritative resolution, and protocol-level operationsExperience with DDI platforms such as Infoblox, BlueCat, or BIND/ISC DHCPProficiency in Linux/Unix systems administration and shell scripting for task automationFamiliarity with virtualization and container platforms (VMware, OpenStack, Kubernetes) and their specific DNS requirementsProven ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced, experimental environmentStrong collaboration skills with the ability to translate research needs into technical system requirementsExcellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on root-cause analysis in multi-vendor environments Benefits:Medical, Dental, & Vision Insurance PlansEmployee-Owned Profit Sharing (ESOP)401K offered The approximate pay range for this position is between $42.00 and $52.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location.
