Assistant Controller

We’re engaged with a client to hire a Director-level accounting leader with a strong foundation in inventory accounting and operational finance. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys owning the close, strengthening accounting processes, and developing high-performing teams in a fast-moving environment. You’ll partner closely with finance leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate reporting, improve scalability, and support continued growth.Why this role stands outDirector-level visibility with direct exposure to senior finance and accounting leadershipOwnership of inventory accounting and core accounting operationsOpportunity to modernize processes and strengthen controls in a growing environmentPeople leadership role with influence over team development and executionStrong cross-functional partnership across finance and business stakeholdersKey ResponsibilitiesLead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate reportingEnsure strict adherence to GAAP and key accounting standards, including ASC 842, 606, and 805Oversee general ledger activities including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysisOwn inventory accounting, including accuracy of valuation and financial reportingMaintain compliance with accounting policies, standards, and internal controlsManage, coach, and develop an accounting team; drive accountability and continuous improvementSupport financial statement preparation and management reportingAnalyze results, identify trends, and communicate insights to leadershipCoordinate audit support and ensure documentation is audit-readyDrive process improvements across accounting workflows and reportingSupport growth initiatives including integrations and operational expansionPartner with finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, and variance commentaryRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field7+ years of progressive accounting experience (general ledger + reporting focus)Recent PE-Backed experience for Middle-Market companyExperience with major ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, JDE, etc) and BlackLineDirect experience supporting inventory accounting in a complex environmentExperience leading close cycles and supporting audit readinessProven team leadership and development experienceAdvanced Excel skills with strong analytical and reconciliation abilityPreferred QualificationsCertfied Public AccountantExperience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or high-growth environments
