Inbound Director

Position Overview:The Director, Inbound is responsible for the vision, strategy, planning, coordinating, and senior leadership of all activities related to the delivery of Receiving, Value Add Services and Fargo services for DigiKey Corporation. The position’s focus is on maintaining, coaching, and developing staff, determining organization objectives, monitoring the progress of projects and initiatives, and taking appropriate action when needed.Responsibilities:Provide leadership and direction through Managers|Sr. ManagerAccountable for the performance and results of related disciplines within a groupExecute business plans and contribute to the development of functional strategyDevelop and drive cross-functional goals and objectives and influence that behavior across the organizationUnderstand overall company strategies, goals and objectives; develop and drive department strategy, goals & objectives to align for maximum impactEffectively communicate with company leadership and throughout the assigned area of responsibilityRespectfully challenge the status quo bringing forth creative and new ideas on how to improve the businessManage a staff of Lead|Expert level employees that work on complicated issues integrating activities and/or processes cross-functionallyIdentify opportunities for team and|or leader (manager|supervisor) development (e.g. hard or soft skill) to ensure industry and corporate standards are met; partner when|where appropriate to develop and organize development activitiesWork closely with DigiKey leadership to identify, develop, and implement continuous improvementsAlign workforce needs|requirements with strategic goals of the departmentProvide direction and guidance to employees and manage issues appropriately. Partner with Human Resources (HR) when neededMonitor and evaluate performance dashboards and reports; determine root cause of issues & propose|lead recommendations & implementation for resolutionLead|participate on cross-functional committees, task forcesMay champion|lead organizational change initiatives (e.g. process, technology, etc.)May be a Product Owner for area of responsibilityProvide visible “hands on” leadership to PDC managers and their supervisors, assisting them in developing a workforce that is highly focused, efficient, improvement-oriented and motivated for successAssume responsibility for day-to-day PDC Operations in Order FulfillmentEffectively communicate operational objectives and plans to the PDC workforce, ensuring that all employees have a common understanding of strategic PDC direction and whether they are making measurable progress toward common objectivesEstablish a continuous improvement plan with metrics for PDC that will lead to a leaner and more efficient operation, resulting in more profitable business practices while increasing customer satisfaction levelsWork closely with the DigiKey Information Technology group to automate manual functions and increase order fulfillment efficiencies across the operationWork as an effective corporate liaison with sales/customer service, purchasing, accounting and other functional areas within DigiKey to maximize order fulfillment efficiency and company profitabilityAssume responsibility for the layout of company order fulfillment facilities as well as the company’s off-site warehousing locations. Organize and combine all warehousing sites to accomplish order fulfillment objectivesEnsure ISO (quality) and OSHA (safety) compliance. Create metrics to ensure that long term performance can be measured and improved. Serve on safety councils and committeesDevelop performance-based metrics for individuals and departments within PDC, measuring actual performance against standards, and adjusting the metrics accordingly to ensure ongoing steady improvement in the performance of individuals and groups/departments within PDCProvide an effective human resources planning process, communicating to DigiKey HR on an ongoing basis regarding projected staffing needs based on objective system reporting and maintaining adequate staffing levels in the PDC at all timesImprove DigiKey’s ranking among other industry electronic distributors with regard to the overall perceived quality and timeliness of order fulfillment. (Same day ship percentages, accuracy)Build upon current financial metrics within the distribution network to enhance budgets, analytical reporting and cost accounting for PDCDevelops near term (1-3+ year) functional plan to achieve PDC objective; contributes to the development of the long-term (5+ years) department and strategic planNothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any timeAbility to travel - domestically and internationally as needed|requestedOn site daily is requiredRequired Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in business administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience10+ years of managerial or related experience such as mentorship, team lead roles or career development3 + years of experience in DigiKey &/or industry experience in inventory control, continuous improvement, Data & Analytics, warehouse distribution or other relevant work experienceDemonstrated success in leadership|management role within an interdepartmental and dynamic company (i.e. global, matrixed organization)Demonstrated ability to build and foster influential relationships at all levels across and outside of the DigiKey organizationDemonstrated ability to communicate professionally at all levels within the organization to identify and resolve problems and implement new initiativesShown fiscal responsibility with the ability to understand and measure the cost-effectiveness of the departmentShown ability to actively participate as a member of the DigiKey Management Team to meet corporate goalsIn-depth knowledge of WMS systems and proven experience in rolling out new systemsExperience in setting up new distribution facilities and integrating existing facilitiesTools / Systems / SoftwareKnowledge of WMS (warehouse management systems)MicrostrategyKiSoftKnapp/MTSPower BI reportingSQP Dashboard
