This includes building data-related infrastructure and tooling, and collaborating closely with various teams to facilitate and improve their usage of data. You will work with our team lead to design, scope, and deliver large scale projects within the team. You will collaborate closely with a diverse group of engineers, and directly impact the team's productivity and successful delivery. You will help to define the team's technical roadmap towards achieving strategic-level engineering goals. We pride ourselves on being kind, friendly, and down-to-earth, and look for people who share those qualities.ResponsibilitiesGuide complex initiatives from initial requirements gathering and robust system design to deployment, effectively evaluating dependent technologies and collaborating closely with stakeholdersBuild scalable data infrastructure and shape the developer experience, tackling projects such as owning data cataloging, versioning, and lineage to support seamless research and production workflowsProvide technical guidance to both engineering and research staff, fostering a supportive environment that accelerates the growth of your teammatesRequirementsComputer Science / Engineering bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)3+ years of relevant software engineering experienceProven track record of software design and implementation with focus on correctness, robustness, efficiency, and scaleExperience working with large codebases and building modular, extensible, and maintainable softwareExpertise in a modern programming language, such as Python, Go, Java or C++Hands-on experience developing in a Linux/UNIX environmentDesign and implementation of scalable services and APIs, highly-available systems, and/or large-scale data infrastructureStrong communication skills and a knack for explaining complex ideas with clarity and simplicityPreferred QualificationsFamiliarity with cluster management and containerization technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)Familiarity with cloud storage, querying, and processing technologies (e.g. Iceberg, BigQuery, Snowflake, DynamoDB, Trino/Athena)Familiarity with job scheduling and orchestration technologies (e.g. Airflow, Slurm)Experience building data platforms with a developer experience lens — designing APIs, access patterns, or tooling that abstracts infrastructure complexity from end users“Friends of Voleon” Candidate Referral Program If you have a great candidate in mind for this role and would like to have the potential to earn $7,500 if your referred candidate is successfully hired and employed by The Voleon Group, please use this form to submit your referral.
