Endoscopy Technician

Reports to Director and Charge Nurse. Assists endoscopy nurses and physicians with procedures performed in the gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopy setting. Maintains, cleans, and disinfects endoscopy equipment. Be on their team.Supply/Inventory MaintenanceMonitors and orders replace stock paper supplies and materials according to predetermined levels.Performs unit cleaning duties as directed. Keeps endoscopy rooms neat and free of clutter.Is familiar with the procedures done in the endoscopy lab.Obtains and has ready-made patient care equipment and supplies for the scheduled procedures.Cleans and stores scopes appropriately.Patient SafetyProvides a safe patient environment based on policy and procedure.Provides patient activity and positioning according to doctor/nursing orders.Appropriately collects specimens.Sets up appropriate scope(s) and supplies as needed for each procedure.Checks function of Steris daily and reports malfunctions as need arises.Changes Cidex as needed and monitors pH daily.CommunicationResponds promptly to patients, staff and physician needs.Uses telephone, e-mail, EGOR accurately and efficiently.Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.Responds in an emergency and assists as directed.Education and TrainingAssists in the training of new and existing staff to role-play responsibilities and hospital policies and protocols relating to the role.Attend all meetings.Attends all mandatory in-services and other in-services to maintain/upgrade knowledge and skills.Will complete ASGE GI Technician Certificate within one year of hire (40-hour self-paced training program)Completes annual skills validationContribute to the overall effectiveness of the departmentCompletes other job-related duties and projects assigned.Organizational ResponsibilitiesAssociates comply with the following organizational requirements:Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department-specific education within established timeframes.Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BLS(CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.Comply with established organization and department policies.Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:Leverage innovation everywhere.Cultivate human talent.Embrace performance improvement.Build greatness through accountability.Use information to improve and advance.Communicate clearly and continuously.Education And ExperienceThe knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must maintain current CPR certification. Up to one year of experience is preferred, or six months as an endoscopy tech Knowledge & SkillsMust be able to work closely and well with co-workers.Must be able to focus on duties despite distractions and pressure.Must have reassuring and attentive personality characteristics.Current knowledge of basic endoscopy procedures.Perform safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning.Assist with therapeutic interventions such as polypectomy, sphincterotomy, gastrostomy tube placement, stent placement, endoscopic mucosal resection, scleral injection, band ligation and balloon dilations.Understands theory and safety when using cautery modalities, including monopolar, bipolar, cryo, and argon plasma coagulation and their various probes.Facilitates proper patient positioning prior to endoscopic procedures.Performs procedures in the OR setting.Working ConditionsPossible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.Physical DemandsRequires physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
