Maintenance Engineer 3 (Memphis, TN)

At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.What will you be doing?The Maintenance Engineer III provides advanced technical leadership and hands-on support for maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of manufacturing and facility equipment supporting Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics. This role focuses on complex equipment troubleshooting, preventive and predictive maintenance strategy, equipment upgrades, and cross-functional problem solving in a regulated medical device manufacturing environment.This position is not offering any type of visa transfer or sponsorship now or in the future**The Maintenance Engineer III serves as a technical resource for maintenance technicians and engineers, supports equipment lifecycle management, and ensures safe, compliant, and reliable manufacturing operations.Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for complex manufacturing, utility, and facility equipmentSupport the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new or upgraded equipmentDevelop, optimize, and sustain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and uptimeAnalyze equipment performance data and downtime trends to identify root causes and long-term corrective actionsLead or support root-cause investigations for recurring equipment failures and production interruptionsEnsure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirementsCreate, revise, and approve maintenance procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and PM documentationSupport change management activities, including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and equipment modificationsCollaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Validation, and Operations teamsSupport validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) when equipment impacts validated processesProvide technical guidance and mentoring to maintenance technicians and junior engineersSupport spare parts strategy, vendor management, and external service providersParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, and cost reductionMaintain an on-site presence to support manufacturing floor activitiesLead the effort into digitizing maintenance and develop a predictive maintenance strategy based on the CMMS data analysis.What will you need to be successful?Required QualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)Experience:5 years of demonstrated experience supporting manufacturing or facility equipment maintenance in an industrial environmentExperience developing and maintaining technical documentation (SOPs, work instructions, maintenance procedures)Knowledge:Strong understanding of equipment safety, LOTO, and risk mitigation practicesCompetences:Strong ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systemsAbility to work independently and effectively in cross-functional teamsStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience:Experience in a regulated medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing environmentExperience supporting validated equipment or regulated manufacturing processesExperience leading equipment improvement projects or reliability initiativesPrior experience mentoring or providing technical leadershipKnowledge:Familiarity with CMMS systems for maintenance planning and reportingKnowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or reliability engineering principlesWork Environment / Physical RequirementsThis role requires a strong on-site presence in a manufacturing environment. The individual must be able to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor and support off-shift or weekend activities as required to address critical equipment events.You Unlimited.
