Corporate Controller

Job Title: Corporate ControllerLocation: Oklahoma City, OklahomaReports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)Position SummaryThe Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions for a 70-store grocery chain. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial statements while providing leadership over accounting operations across multiple locations. The Controller will partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership to support strategic decisions, improve financial controls, and scale systems and processes to support growth.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & ComplianceOversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all store locations and corporate entitiesEnsure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and applicable regulatory requirementsManage the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditorsOversee tax compliance in coordination with external tax advisors (income, sales/use, payroll, and property taxes)Accounting OperationsLead day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accountingEnsure accurate store-level reporting, including sales, margin, shrink, labor, and operating expensesOversee inventory valuation, retail accounting method, and shrink analysis specific to grocery operationsMaintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets and reduce riskSystems, Processes & ControlsOwn the accounting systems and chart of accounts, driving system enhancements and automation where appropriateDevelop, document, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across all locationsPartner with IT and operations to ensure POS, inventory, and financial systems are properly integratedLeadership & Team DevelopmentManage and develop the corporate accounting team, including hiring, training, and performance managementProvide guidance and support to store-level personnel on accounting and financial proceduresFoster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvementBusiness Partnership & AnalysisPartner with the CFO and operations leadership to analyze financial results and identify trends, risks, and opportunitiesSupport budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processesProvide financial insights related to new store openings, remodels, pricing strategies, and cost management initiativesAssist with special projects, acquisitions, or strategic initiatives as neededQualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting or FinanceCPA designation strongly preferred8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilityMulti-unit retail experience required; grocery, food, or high-volume retail strongly preferredStrong knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practicesExperience with inventory accounting and cost of goods sold in a retail environmentPreferredExperience supporting 50+ locations or complex multi-entity structuresERP and POS system experience (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar retail-focused systems)Prior experience with Retail Inventory Method of accountingKey CompetenciesDetail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skillsHands-on leader comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-volume environmentStrong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial leadersProven ability to scale processes and systems as the business growsWhy Join UsPlay a key leadership role in an established employee-owned grocery business, that for Oklahomans is a household name, focused on organizational renewalHigh visibility and direct impact on company performanceOpportunity to modernize systems and processes in a complex, multi-store environment
