Test TechnicianReports To: Test And Activation ManagerSupervises: NoneDuties/Responsibilities: This position is an entry level in the test technician and activation job family. Under close supervision, performs routine test technician duties in the support of higher level Test Specialists.• Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions of a simple nature.• Performs routine operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment to ensure conformance with final product specifications.• Utilizes routine manufacturing test or diagnostic equipment specific to the product.• May perform limited design activities in support of test equipment/procedures development.• Assigned to activities such as production, test, system checkouts, quality control.• Conducts defined tests and collects data as assigned.• Diagnoses and isolates malfunctions down to the component level.Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience:• Preferred experience and/or training:Testing experience in a shipyard, marine, aerospace, industrial/commercial, or offshore oil and gas environment.Two (2) years technical trade or military technical school.Prior Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine experience.Basic understanding of ship construction drawings and testing procedures.Basic knowledge of how marine equipment should operate.Basic mechanical and/or electrical aptitude is essential.Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical propulsion and electrical power generating equipment.Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical and piping system diagrams, schematics and drawings.Knowledge of diesel engines and gas turbinesKnowledge of shipboard damage control systemsKnowledge of hydraulic systems and shipboard deck equipmentKnowledge of Auxiliary and/or HVAC systems.• Desire and ability to work in a shipyard environment required.• Ability to maintain proficiency in shipboard engineering plant terminology and operations; retain knowledge of industrial or marine ancillary machinery systems installation and operation required.Additional Guidelines:Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:18 years of age or older at time of applicationAble to provide proof of US Person StatusNo felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition dateNo felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition dateWilling to submit to a drug screenWilling to submit to a background checkThe ability to obtain and maintain a DOD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.Travel:This position will require repair efforts in various offsite locations and will be required to travel to customer sites to support work on vessels if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities. The potential for offsite travel can potentially be in excess of 15-25%. Possess sufficient hand grip and coordination to carry and operate tools andequipment.13. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.14. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.15. Ability to enter 18" x 36" openings and work in confined spaces for prolongedperiods of time.16. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.17. Able to utilize adequate visual skills.18. Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, out, to the side and down.19. Ability to perceive attributes of an object/materials such as size, shape, temperatureand texture by means of receptors in the hands andfingers.Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
