Chief Estimator, Insulation & Specialty Construction

We are looking for a Chief Estimator to lead estimating operations within a specialty contractor environment supporting residential builders and light commercial construction projects.This role is ideal for a hands-on estimator who can independently review plans, develop accurate pricing, identify scope gaps, and support sales and operational teams throughout the bid process. The position requires strong blueprint reading, local market familiarity, and the ability to work directly with builders and internal leadership. This hire will play a critical role in driving profitable project acquisition and strengthening estimating processes as the company continues to grow.ResponsibilitiesLead estimating efforts for residential and light commercial insulation, fireplace, and specialty construction projectsReview blueprints, specifications, and bid documents to identify project scope requirements and risk areasPrepare accurate takeoffs, pricing proposals, labor projections, and material estimatesCoordinate with sales, operations, and production teams to ensure scope alignment before project awardCommunicate directly with builders, contractors, and vendors throughout the bidding and negotiation processIdentify missing scope items, value engineering opportunities, and pricing adjustments during bid developmentMaintain organized bid tracking, proposal documentation, and estimating recordsSupport leadership with forecasting, backlog visibility, and estimating process improvementsAssist with mentoring junior estimators or sales-estimating staff as the team expandsRequirements7+ years of estimating experience within construction, specialty contracting, or builder services environmentsStrong experience reviewing residential construction plans and specifications requiredExperience estimating insulation, fireplaces, building products, drywall, roofing, exterior products, or related trades preferredAbility to independently manage bid opportunities from takeoff through final proposal submissionExperience working directly with residential builders and contractors strongly preferredMust have hands-on estimating ownership experience, not strictly project coordination supportResidential construction estimating experience required; industrial-only or unrelated estimating backgrounds will not be sufficientProficiency with estimating software, takeoff tools, spreadsheets, and construction documentationBenefitsCompensation: Competitive salary plus commission/bonus structure based on experience and production.Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, vehicle allowance or mileage support, and other company-sponsored programs.
