Auditor (Internal Auditing)

Job DescriptionThis position will conduct audits to evaluate the effectiveness of various processes throughout the Company, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. This position will be required to execute audit plans and programs, including risk assessments and testing strategies in accordance with audit policies and Institute of Internal Auditing (IIA) standards. The successful candidate will perform fieldwork, collect and analyze data, and prepare detailed audit reports with minimal supervision.You must be willing to work onsite minimum four days per week.Location: This role can sit in either Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL.Key ResponsibilitiesThoroughly perform and document audit and advisory work to ensure conformance with Global Internal Audit Standards established by the IIAFormulate insightful questions for audit customers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business process being auditedPromote cooperation and foster teamwork to accomplish audit objectives Exhibit strong organizational and time management skills necessary to effectively complete scheduled audits and ad hoc requestsClearly present financial analytics to non-financial stakeholdersEffectively communicate audit observations visually in engagement reportsUse critical thinking skills to produce workable solutions to a range of problems and contribute new ideas to improve Internal Audit and other organizationsRequirementsEducation and Certification:Certified Public AccountantBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.Experience, Knowledge And Skills10+ years’ work experience with Southern CompanyPrior public accounting is preferredStrong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) accounting standardsDiplomatically identify control gaps, emerging risks, and opportunities for process improvementDevelop clear, actionable, and practical recommendations that balance risk mitigation with business objectivesPrepare transparent, concise, and timely audit reports suitable for management and executive audiencesExcellent interpersonal and communication skills Working knowledge of Oracle financial management toolsDemonstrated ability to adapt to changing demands, multitask, and manage competing priorities effectivelyProven capability to analyze large amounts of data using the most suitable software or tool; Proficiency in Alteryx and Microsoft Power BI is a plus.Participate in special reviews, investigations, or advisory projects as neededEffectively collaborate within a team setting or work independently with confidence, keeping management informed as appropriateStrong self-motivation to stay productive without direct supervisionOpenness to adjusting work practices based on feedback and changing circumstancesEstablished ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partnersAbout Southern CompanySouthern Company (NYSE: SO ) is a leading energy provider serving 9 million customers across the Southeast and beyond through its family of companies.
