The Lockhart ISD MissionThe mission of Lockhart Independent School District is to cultivate innovative learners and empower bold leaders who are prepared for a future yet to be imagined.Lockhart's LeadersAcross Lockhart ISD, each of our leaders are guided by three core themes embodied in our leadership definition and their corresponding behaviors:Having a Lock"heart" for People which is focused on developing one's relational capacity;Unlocking Potential which is centered on the development and empowerment of both the self and others; and,Being Locked on Excellence which means that every person will have a relentless pursuit for results Primary Purpose:The primary purpose of the campus nurse is to implement the district school health program and provide direct services to meet the needs of students under the clinical supervision of the Health Services Coordinator or School Nurse (RN).Education/Certi?cation:High School diploma or GEDValid RN / LVN Texas license issued by the Board of Nurse ExaminersHealthcare Provider CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross or willing to obtainPreferred - Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct hearing and vision screeningsSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of basic first aid and health appraisal to identify student health defectsStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to communicate e?ectively (verbal and written)Ability to use personal computer and softwareAbility to implement policies and proceduresExperience:One year nursing experienceMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students according to district policy and procedures and as per nursing license (RN/LVN).Manage the activities/care and prescribed medical treatment of students in the absence of the regularly assigned nurse.Administer medications according to district policy and procedures and doctor's standing orders.Maintain appropriate and timely documentation as directed by the Health Services Coordinator.Comply with Texas Department of State Health Services regulations and District policy.Assess student problems as per nursing license (RN/LVN) and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.Authorize exclusion and re-admittance of students with contagious diseases using guidelines as outlined by LISD Policy and the Texas Department of State Health Services Communicable Disease Chart.Notify parents of accident or illness and secure emergency medical care for students as neededWork collaboratively with Health Services Coordinator and the primary nurse regularly assigned to the campus.Maintain complete and accurate health records for students.Maintain communication with the principal and supervising nurse regarding health problems and related matters.Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.Report potential health and safety hazards to principal and Health Services Coordinator.Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.Maintain confidentiality.Certi?cates, Licenses, Registrations:License from the State of Texas to practice as RN or LVN.Practices within the de?ned limits of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and the scope of practice of a RN or LVN.Completes mandated Continuing Education (CE) requirements to maintain nursing License.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripheralsPosture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extensionLifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory studentsEnvironment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseasesMental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress*Adapted from Recommended School Health Staff Roles published by the Texas Department of Health School Health Advisory Committee, January 14, 2013.$125 (LVN) to $150 (RN) per Day
