EstimatorRoleThe position of an Estimator is responsible for analyzing customer blueprints, CAD files, and specifications to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates. The Estimator ensures quotes reflect realistic machining processes, material costs, outside services, and labor requirements while supporting sales, production, engineering, and management teams. This role is critical to maintaining profitability, workflow efficiency, and strong customer relationships in a fast-paced, custom manufacturing setting.ResponsibilitiesReview and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specificationsAnalyze machining requirements, including setups, tooling, tolerances, and cycle timesCalculate material, labor, and machine-hour costs for CNC milling, turning, fabrication, and assembliesObtain quotes from vendors for raw materials, hardware, tooling, and outside processesPrepare detailed cost estimates and formal customer quotationsEnter and maintain quote details (materials, routing steps, pricing, lead times) in the ERP systemTrack quote status and follow up with customers to support new business opportunitiesMaintain accurate records of estimates, revisions, and historical job costingCollaborate cross-functionally with production, programming, quality, and management to determine manufacturabilityParticipate in handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from quoting to productionEvaluate opportunities for cost reduction or value-engineering solutionsSupport continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quoting accuracy and speedExpectationsThe Estimator is expected to provide timely, accurate, and well-supported quotes that reflect both production capability and market-competitive pricing. The role involves rapid evaluation of customer requests, proactive communication with internal teams and vendors, and clear documentation inside the ERP system. The Estimator must help prevent production bottlenecks by identifying manufacturability concerns early, support profitable decision-making, and contribute to monthly sales and margin goals.
