Biotechnology Laboratory Associate

ABOUT THE POSITIONIn this role, you will perform a variety of routine and experimental diagnostic tests to generate data on samples in the lab. The Laboratory Associate must have a passion for operations and a background in microbiology and/or molecular biology to facilitate a smooth workflow in the laboratory.Prior experience with the following is helpful, but not required:Working with BSL-2 pathogensInventory, sample, and consumable managementData curationFollowing SOPsRoles and ResponsibilitiesExecute microbiological methods to generate customer dataPerform hands on or machine-assisted sample preparation including dissections, filtration, and centrifugationRun manual or semi-automated diagnostic methods including plate based assays and PCRMaintain sample integrity and traceability to enable multiple diagnostic tests per sampleBank/ship samples for downstream analysis (sequencing, serotyping)Troubleshoot and escalate challenges encountered in day-to-day operationsHelp validate and verify studies of new assays or instrumentationSupport new product development and matrix extensionsThoroughly follow established SOPs and maintain records for traceabilityParticipate in process improvement initiatives to improve lab efficiency, quality, and customer valueEducation/ExperienceBS in microbiology, molecular biology or related fieldTwo (2) years of laboratory experience, which can include undergraduate/academic researchKey SkillsHands-on experience in microbiology and/or molecular biologyTraining and experience handling pathogenic bacteria in a biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) environment is preferredDemonstrated ability to quickly learn a variety of protocols. Self-motivated to learn new tools and technologiesStrong critical thinking capabilitiesExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with personnel at all levels
