SpaceXLos Angeles, CAL6 LeadSeptember 15th, 2026
Overview As a Software Engineer in SpaceX's NDE & Materials Software team, you will advance an in-house multi-physics simulation engine supporting high-pressure die casting and investment casting, and extend it to manufacturing domains like additive manufacturing, welding, and structural analysis. You will apply ML/AI to speed simulations, improve part yield, and reduce inspection burden across programs such as Raptor, Starship, and Starlink. You’ll own architecture, develop integrations with CFD, meshing, and CAD tools, and help transition results viewing to web-based 3D tooling. This role combines deep physics, software engineering, and cross-functional collaboration to push manufacturing at space- Compensation / Benefitsstock or long-term incentivesdiscretionary bonusesEmployee Stock Purchase Planmedical, vision, and dental coverage401(k) retirement planpaid parental leave and holidays ResponsibilitiesOwn the architecture and quality of the simulation software used across SpaceXDevelop and optimize next-generation multi-physics software integrating CFD, meshing, and CAD tools; contribute to web-based 3D results viewingBuild advanced interfaces to view and interpret simulation resultsTroubleshoot integration, meshing quality, and simulation accuracy issuesLeverage ML/AI, including surrogate modeling and physics-informed neural networks, to accelerate simulations and improve part yieldCollaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features and automate processesConduct testing and validation against industry-standard benchmarks Key requirementsBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM, or 5+ years of software experience in lieu of a degree2+ years of software development experience in C++, Python, or other OO languagesExcellent communication skillsstrong collaboration and teamworkdesire to learn and enable the best future for manufacturing at SpaceXExperience with numerical solvers for complex physics domains (OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics)Strong meshing skills (NX, ANSYS Meshing, SnappyHexMesh)ML/AI for simulation (surrogate modeling, physics-informed neural networks, neural operators, graph neural networks)
