We want to be the company where you build your career and retire from.THE ROLEThe Heavy Equipment Operator I position is a full-time, hourly position and is located at our Environmental Waste Facility in Lost Hills. Heavy equipment will primarily include front-end loaders, screens, and conveyors. Other equipment that may be operated includes excavators, dozers, scrapers, generators and misc. other small pieces of equipment.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESOperate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or fatalitiesAdjust windrows or piles by turning, watering, or covering to maintain proper biological activityManage aeration systems and blowersLoad and unload material from trucks, stockpiles, or conveyorsPerform extensive record keeping for compost operationCollect and record compost samples and temperature/moisture readings as requiredAssist with landfill equipment operation as neededConduct daily safety inspections and basic maintenance checksClean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or requiredEnsure heavy equipment is safely and securely storedAdvise the Superintendent of any requirements for maintenance or repairsParticipate in routine maintenancePractice workplace safetyPerform other related dutiesPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTSEnvironmental conditions - Must be able to work outdoors year-round in varying weather, including extreme heat and cold. May be exposed to hazardous substances, proper protective measures must be followed.Mental demands- Conditions that may lead to mental or emotional fatigue. This position entails working independently and maintaining a schedule of work. Any problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time.Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 25 to 50 pounds.Climb on and around equipment and sit for long periods while operating equipment.Work outside year-round in the different weather conditions and temperatures.Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.Ability to climb stairs equivalent to at least two storiesRequirements:ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS1-3 years of experience in the following:Equipment safetyOperation of front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, scrapers and other pieces of heavy equipmentWorkplace safety requirements and proceduresRecord keeping systemEquipment cleaning standards and proceduresSupervisor experience preferredMust be fully competent to perform all Operator 1 tasksAbility to operate heavy equipment in a safe and responsible mannerDecision making skillsEffective verbal and listening communication skillsAbility to read and write to record pickups and maintain daily recordsTime managementHonest and trustworthyReliable and dependablePossess cultural awareness and sensitivityFlexibilityDemonstrate sound work ethicsDeal with the public in a positive, courteous and respectful mannerMust pass drug screen and physical.
