Senior Applications Developer (C# / SQL Server)
*POSITION SUMMARY*
For over 30 years, HTF has been a trusted master-stocking distributor of electronic hardware, fasteners, and components. As an ISO-certified supplier, we provide both standard and non-standard parts, ensuring fast, reliable delivery to customers worldwide. With distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada, we stock top brands and support industries including aerospace, telecom, defense, medical, and industrial manufacturing.
Our operations run on Epicor Prophet 21 (P21) backed by SQL Server, alongside a B2B eCommerce storefront and a growing set of internal applications. We are hiring a Senior Applications Developer to own that portfolio: the business rules, the integrations, the custom applications, and the data layer underneath all of it.
This is a senior, hands-on role with real autonomy. We are looking for a strong *C# and SQL Server developer first*. Prior Prophet 21 experience is a significant plus, but it is not a requirement — a developer who is fluent in C# and relational data modeling will read the P21 schema and pick up its customization framework quickly, and we would rather hire for engineering judgment than for familiarity with one vendor’s toolset.
You will be the technical authority on how our ERP is extended. That means shipping work yourself, but also making the calls about what gets customized versus configured versus left alone — decisions that either compound into a maintainable system or into an upgrade nightmare.
This position is on-site and reports to the Director of Technology and Innovation.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*
* Design, build, and maintain C# / .NET applications, services, and integrations that extend P21 and connect it to our eCommerce storefront, middleware, supplier systems, and internal tools.
* Write and optimize complex T-SQL — stored procedures, views, functions, and queries — against the P21 database, including performance tuning where custom logic or reporting load affects production.
* Own the P21 customization portfolio: business rules (DynaChange), custom screens, and extensions. Decide what belongs as configuration, what belongs as a rule, and what belongs in application code.
* Translate business requirements from Sales, Purchasing, Distribution, and Accounting into working solutions, pushing back where a request is better solved by process change than by code.
* Establish and enforce engineering practice: source control, code review, a real test-to-production path, and documentation of every customization in service.
* Lead upgrade impact assessment — maintain the customization inventory, identify what breaks, and plan remediation ahead of P21 version upgrades.
* Build and maintain reporting and data integrations (SSRS, Power BI, or equivalent) that give the business reliable numbers.
* Serve as technical liaison to Epicor and to third-party implementation and development partners, holding vendor work to the same standard as internal work.
* Mentor junior technical staff and share knowledge deliberately, so that no system has exactly one person who understands it.
*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*
* 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a substantial portion in C# / .NET.
* Advanced SQL Server skills: complex T-SQL, stored procedure development, indexing, execution plan analysis, and performance tuning against large transactional databases.
* Demonstrated experience integrating business systems — REST or SOAP APIs, message queues, file-based interfaces, or EDI — including error handling and reconciliation for processes that must not silently fail.
* Experience working directly against a third-party application database: reading an unfamiliar schema, inferring intent, and extending a system you did not build.
* Source control discipline (Git or equivalent) and a working definition of "tested" that does not mean "it ran once on my machine."
* Ability to gather requirements from non-technical business users and translate them into a technical design without a business analyst in between.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
* Ability to work on-site in Frederick, Maryland.
*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
_Strong candidates will have several of these. None is disqualifying on its own._
* Epicor Prophet 21 experience — DynaChange Rules, Screen Designer, Portals, the P21 API, or P21 Middleware.
* Experience with another distribution or manufacturing ERP (Epicor Kinetic, NetSuite, SAP Business One, Infor, Acumatica) and its customization layer.
* Background in wholesale distribution, industrial supply, or manufacturing — order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, inventory, and pricing.
* eCommerce and B2B storefront integration, including pricing and availability services.
* Reporting development in SSRS, Crystal Reports, Report Studio, InfoMaker, or Power BI.
* SQL Server administration: backup strategy, replication, high availability.
* Front-end skills (JavaScript, React, or similar) for internal tooling.
_Note: As part of the hiring process, you may be asked to participate in a competency assessment to measure proficiency in coding and development skills. _
*SKILLS AND KEY COMPETENCIES*
* Excellent interpersonal, problem resolution and team building skills.
* Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
* Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
* Possess an outgoing, friendly and positive demeanor.
* Professionalism focusing on customer service, organization, and being an overall team player.
* Able to deliver effective results, meet tight deadlines and targets.
* Eager to grow within the Company.
*WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE*
*First 90 Days*
Fluent in the P21 schema and our existing customizations. Several requests delivered end-to-end. A clear-eyed written assessment of where our current customization portfolio carries risk.
