Teacher Infant-Toddler
The Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group ofchildren as part of a teaching team. The Teacher plans and implementsthe Education Component objectives of the Performance Standards. TheTeacher is responsible for promoting the mission of ABCD Head Start &Children?s Services; building an understanding of the program bycommunicating this mission to staff, families and the community. Thisposition must comply with all federal, state and local laws,regulations, standards and policies, including those of the federalAdministration for Children and Families (ACF), the MassachusettsDepartment of Early Education and Care (EEC), the Individuals withDisabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Department ofElementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Massachusetts disability law(Chapter 766), Boston Family Engagement Network (BFEN) and ABCD, Inc.Head Start and Children?s Services policies and procedures. All ABCDHead Start/Early Head Start and Children?s Services personnel who arepaid to care for, or work with, children are MANDATED BY LAW to reportall suspected cases of child abuse and neglect to the MassachusettsDepartment of Children and Families (DCF), pursuant to MassachusettsGeneral Laws Chapter 119 ?? 51A ? 51G. Any staff member who suspectschild abuse or neglect of a child must inform his or her supervisorimmediately. The responsibilities of a particular position may supportboth Early Head Start and Head Start depending on the individualassignment. The specific corresponding funding allocation will bedocumented on the personnel payroll authorization or change of statusform. All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject toHead Start\'s policy on confidentiality. Key Responsibilities ESSENTIALDUTIES: Teaching Practices Provide infants and toddlers with joyful,nurturing, safe, healthy, individualized environment and the variedexperiences which help them develop socially, intellectually,physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age andstage of development in relationship to the overall goal of socialcompetency. Provide a balance between individual and small groupactivities designed to enhance children\'s development and learning asthey practice existing skills and develop emerging ones. Provide abalance of open ended exploration, teacher directed activities,structured activities and sensory-based play activities to fosterchildren\'s curiosity, engagement, reasoning and problem solving.Provide care such as diapering, toileting, feeding, dressing and hygienein a relaxed and individualized manner to foster children\'s emotionaldevelopment and help them gain independence and autonomy in completingthese tasks. Provides supervision to classroom volunteers to facilitatethe implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities.Skills, Knowledge And Expertise JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESEnsure the integration of the educational aspects of the various HeadStart components by developing opportunities and activities for childrento learn about health, safety, nutrition, dental health and families.Develop activities and strategies for involving parents in theeducational aspects of the program in order to improve theirunderstanding of child development specifically as it relates to infantsand toddlers and facilitate their role as the principal influence intheir child\'s education and development. Possesses necessary computerskills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Abilityto use other database systems as required for data collection. Behave ina professional manner. Exhibit good interpersonal skills; workcooperatively as a member of a teaching team, with other program staffand parents. Possess bilingual ability where appropriate. Demonstrate aknowledge of and sensitivity to the educational and socioeconomic needsof the children and families serve in Early Head Start.
