Environmental Specialist
BB&E is a full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to the federal and private sectors.Position SummaryBB&E is currently looking for an Environmental Specialist to support industrial and federal environmental compliance and remediation programs in our Atlanta, GA office.Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupport Project Managers with the planning and execution of various projects. Responsibilities may include the following:Provide site investigation support, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, preliminary assessments, site inspections, and remedial investigationsOversee drilling subcontractors during the advancement of soil borings, monitoring well installations, and other investigative activitiesConduct soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater sampling activitiesFamiliarity with the operation of field instrumentation (e.g., turbidity meter, water level meter, iron kit, various pumps [e.g., peristaltic, bladder, submersible, etc.])Track, document, and make decisions during field activitiesInterpret analytical laboratory data and prepare reports documenting the work performed, results, and findingsAssist BB&E's clients with sustainability initiatives, management system implementation, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulationsAssist with environmental compliance permitting, including air, stormwater, and wastewater, and maintain compliance with environmental permits for our clientsDevelop plans including spill prevention, control, and countermeasure, stormwater pollution prevention plans, hazardous waste contingency plans, waste management plans, etc.Perform assigned workin accordance withproject schedules, plans, and budgetsTravel up to 80% of the time to perform field workRequirementsCertifications: OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required; other applicable certifications could include EIT, GIT, PE, PG, CHMM, CEP, etc.Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)Ability to collect and organize project data, conduct analysis, prepare reports, and provide recommendations without assistanceTechnical writing experienceField work experience (e.g., soil, sediment, surface water, storm water, soil vapor, and groundwater sampling, including experience with PFAS) is preferredStrong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiencesSoftware: Proficiency using MS Office software, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is requiredSelf-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to problem solve and function as a member of a teamExperience & EducationExperience: 2-4 years of related experience as an environmental professionalis preferred or 1-2 years of experience as a junior engineer (preferred)Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher in science or applicable engineering, geology, or other related areas is requiredPhysical Requirements and Work EnvironmentPhysical Requirements: Must have the ability to: stand/walk/kneel/crouch and to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time; operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; Must be able to pass drug testing; Must be able to travel up to 80% of the time with no limitations related to traveling, including working from the Atlanta office when not in the fieldWork Environment: Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions; occasionally required to navigate rough terrain, work in confined spaces, and operate at heights; Exposure to hazards/contaminants at timesPPE & Safety: Required to wear personal protective equipment as necessary; may encounter hazards or contaminants during work tasksBenefitsCompetitive compensation packagesParticipation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan - BB&E is 100% employee-owned!Discretionary bonus*Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance with health care concierge*Employer provided Short-Term & Long-Term disability*Employer provided Life insurance*Employee options for supplemental life, supplemental accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, and Identity theft protection benefits*Generous PTO plus 11 paid holidaysTraditional & Roth 401(k) options with fully vested employer matchTuition reimbursement & professional developmentEmployee referral programFinancial wellness resourcesEmployee discountsEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Pet insurance discount*Applies only to full-time employees*BB&E is an Equal Opportunity Employer and an Affirmative Action Employer.
