Substitute Custodian

POSITION OVERVIEW: Contributes to the appearance and operations of LBL by cleaning and maintaining assigned buildings and grounds, and performing minor maintenance and operations duties. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Oregon driver’s license. Knowledge of effective cleaning practices, procedures and equipment. Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, Security, and other building systems. Knowledge of safety rules, practices, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines. Ability to read basic operating and material safety instructions. Possess basic computational math skills. Ability to respond in a positive cooperative manner to direction. Ability to work independently, prioritize the work schedule, take initiative, and use good judgment in the performance of tasks. GENERAL INFORMATION: This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules. Must be able to use tools that vibrate (power tools, lawnmower, etc.). Must be able to stand, walk for the majority of an 8-hour day. Provide own transportation to numerous settings within a flexible work schedule that may include evenings and occasional overnight stays. Ability to lift, carry or transport up to 70 -100 pounds. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary. Maintain the LBL building and equipment through basic cleaning processes, including washing, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, emptying trash containers, and other tasks as assigned. Maintain assigned LBL grounds ensuring that the grounds are mowed and tidy. Clean lavatories, including toilets and sinks, mirrors, walls and dispensers to ensure proper sanitary conditions and good appearance on a daily basis. Check and fill towel, soap and sanitary napkin dispensers. Ensure that all conference rooms are set-up as requested by conference center users. Wash windows and glass throughout the facility to assure good appearance and visibility. Sanitize drinking fountains on a regular basis. Vacuum and /or maintain all floors, corridors, and furniture in a clean, attractive condition. Clean, dust, and vacuum offices, conference rooms, conference room kitchen, staff room etc. on a systematic basis. Refill supplies as needed in staff room and conference room kitchen. Report needed repair work to supervisor and assist with repairs as assigned. Perform minor repairs to buildings and fixtures; replaces and repairs light bulbs and fixtures as necessary. Correct or report safety, sanitary and fire hazards. Move equipment or furniture within the building and assist with meeting set-up as needed. Operate, monitor and report irregularities in the operation of security, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Assume responsibility for opening or closing the LBL building and / or satellite work sites as assigned. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that all windows and doors are secured all appropriate lights and appliances turned off and the alarm system activated. Serve as Courier when assigned. Receives and completes work tickets. Work well within a team. Promote good staff morale and put team needs above individual needs. Collaborate with others to complete tasks and solve problems in a positive manner Communicate effectively in a courteous, tactful and professional manner.
