Job SummaryAs a Weekend Nurse Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating nursing services for residents during weekend shifts, in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and facility leadership. This role includes overseeing nursing staff, ensuring high standards of care, maintaining regulatory compliance, and promoting a safe and supportive environment for residents and staff during weekends.Clinical Oversight and Patient Care:Ensure nursing care is delivered according to established standards, protocols, and facility policies during weekend operations.Supervise and monitor medication administration, treatments, and resident assessments.Assess residents’ physical, emotional, and mental conditions and ensure timely interventions.Respond promptly to changes in resident condition and coordinate appropriate care.Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (physicians, therapists, social services) as needed to ensure continuity of care.Staff Management:Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) during weekend shifts.Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and assignment completion.Address staffing issues such as call-offs and assist with scheduling adjustments.Provide guidance, coaching, and corrective action to staff as necessary.Promote adherence to facility policies, procedures, and professional standards.Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.Monitor documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities as assigned.Identify potential quality or compliance issues and communicate concerns to the Director of Nursing or Administrator.Investigate and respond to resident or family concerns related to nursing care during weekends.Administrative and Operational Duties:Serve as the primary nursing leadership contact during weekend hours.Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of medications.Maintain adequate nursing supplies and report needs to appropriate leadership.Document and report incidents, accidents, and changes in resident condition in a timely manner.Provide detailed handoff communication to weekday leadership regarding weekend events and concerns.Patient and Family Interaction:Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and the nursing team during weekend shifts.Provide education, updates, and emotional support to residents and families as appropriate.Promote resident dignity, safety, and quality of life.Emergency Preparedness:Act as a leader during emergencies such as falls, medical events, or facility-wide incidents.Coordinate resident care and provide clear direction to staff during crises.Ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up after emergency situations.Licensure:Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.CPR and First Aid certification.Experience:Minimum of 2–5 years of nursing experience.Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.Long-term care or geriatric nursing experience strongly preferred.Skills:Strong clinical assessment and decision-making abilities.Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Knowledge of nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and long-term care operations.Ability to manage staffing, priorities, and resources effectively.Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.Work Conditions:Primarily weekend shifts; may include evenings and holidays.Exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards.Working Environment:Long-term care facility such as a nursing home, assisted living, or rehabilitation center.Frequent interaction with residents, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare staff.In this role, the Weekend Nurse Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining high-quality resident care, supporting nursing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing consistent leadership during weekend operations.
