Registered Nurse (School Nurse)
Job DescriptionCrystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a RN. This position provides direct nursing services to students and staff members to maximize health and wellness in the school community. All duties are performed in accordance with district/ state Board of Education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice.The ideal candidate will:Provide direct professional nursing services: first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandatesAdminister medication and treatment with appropriate documentationParticipate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions and the related archival responsibilitiesPerform mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing (requires state credentials as a screener)Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/ neglect as a mandated reporterMaintain communication with the certificated school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/ guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of studentsContact parents regarding student absences, illness or injuriesMonitor communicable diseases and do follow-up contact as needed under the guidance of the Certificated School NurseMaintain student attendance records and prepare reports as directedComplete accident/ incident reports for students and staffMaintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issuesMaintain a daily log of student/ staff visits and documentation on individual health recordsMaintain the daily environment of the health office facility and suppliesUtilize existing technology effectively in the performance of dutiesPerform other health or school-related work as requiredSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Education: Currently registered in State of Illinois, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program completion, Illinois Certification as a Vision & Hearing Technician (as soon as accepted in the state certification class)Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technologyActive RN LicenseSome experience in a hospital setting or similar acute care setting is preferableKnowledge of HIPAA lawsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, effectively communicating with parents and students, articulation, creativity, organizational skills, confidentiality, maintain a positive attitude and cooperativeness.
