We are currently seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to support our Oak Ridge Project.Description:As a mid-level mechanical engineer, you will support and execute the design of building mechanical systems for industrial and government facilities, including HVAC, ductwork, piping, and plumbing systems. This role involves independent technical contributions, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to Amentum's quality and engineering procedures to deliver fully coordinated, compliant design packages.The successful candidate will perform detailed engineering design tasks, support peer reviews, and contribute to projects from concept development through construction support.Key Responsibilities:Perform and support the design of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems, including B31.3 process pipingDevelop and check:Engineering calculationsEquipment sizingSystem layoutsDesign deliverables and drawingsCoordinate mechanical designs with structural, electrical, architectural, and process disciplinesUtilize discipline-specific design and analysis software to support system designApply applicable codes, standards, and procedures (e.g., IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME)Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate review commentsSupport construction activities, including responses to RFIs and submittal reviewsAdhere to established quality assurance programs and proceduresBasic Qualifications:B.S. Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program5+ years in industrial/government design of Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing Systems, and related mechanical building systemsAbility to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams to meet project budgets and schedulesProficiency with discipline-specific tools such as: Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, PipeFlo, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.Working knowledge of applicable codes & standards (International Mechanical Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, etc.)Preferred Qualifications:In addition to the Basic Qualifications the ideal candidate might also have:Prior nuclear, DOE, or high-hazard facility design experienceExperience working under a formal quality program (ISO 9001, NQA 1)Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtainStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsSelf-motivated, detail-oriented, and team-focused professionalProficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)Work Environment :Primarily office-based work in a secure engineering environment?Amentum office location is preferred; hybrid or remote work may be available by prior agreement based on role and project requirementsOccasional exposure to industrial facilities, which may include elevated noise levels, hazardous materials, or controlled areasSite visits may be requiredPhysical Requirements: ?Ability to sit or stand for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 35 lbs?occasionallyVision correctable to 20/20Ability to read and use computer-aided design software effectivelyAppropriate PPE and training will be provided as requiredCompliance & Eligibility Requirements:U.S. Citizenship required (no dual citizenship)Valid driver's license is requiredAbility to obtain and maintain a security clearanceAbility to pass?pre-employment background investigation and drug screeningWillingness to work overtime or outside normal hours as neededProfessional appearance appropriate for a customer-facing engineering environmentTravel required: less than 10%Compensation Details:$90,000 - $145,000The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good-faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued.
