We are a lean, growing operation where the right person will not just close the books, they will help shape how the business runs.About the RoleWe are looking for a Controller who is more than an accountant.This is a senior operating role that sits at the intersection of accounting, compliance, operations, and technology. You will report directly to ownership and take broad responsibility for the financial health and operational information systems of the business.The right person for this role has strong accounting fundamentals and also understands that the future of financial management is data-driven, technology-enabled, and tightly connected to how the business actually operates.This is not a traditional accounting management role.The Controller at FCP manages financial functions and also serves as the company's internal technology and systems resource for finance and operations. You will have the opportunity to significantly shape how financial information flows through the business and how technology is used to improve operations.If you are a Controller who also knows how to build a Power BI dashboard, automate a reporting workflow, design a job cost database, or evaluate a software platform, this role was written for you.What You Will OwnAccounting and FinanceManage all general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close processesFull-cycle accounting through financial statement preparation for a manufacturing operationJob costing in a project-based manufacturing environment — you understand WIP, cost allocation, and how estimates flow through to actualsMulti-state sales tax compliance across 9+ states, including economic nexus monitoring, exemption certificate management, and tax treatment of lump-sum contractsMaintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAPCoordinate external audits and regulatory filingsBudgeting, forecasting, and margin analysis for estimating and operations leadershipCompliance and RegulatoryOversee payroll compliance· California employment law compliance — exempt/non-exempt classification, wage and hour requirements, FMLA/ADA/FEHA, and termination documentationManage workers compensation, general liability, and insurance audit processesMaintain licensing and regulatory registrationsTechnology and SystemsMicrosoft Dynamics 365 Business Central — you'll be the internal power user and administrator, managing inventory valuation, posting workflows, and reportingAdvanced Excel — not just formulas, but Power Query, data modeling, and building tools that replace manual processesPower BI or equivalent — building dashboards and reports that give leadership real-time visibility into job profitability, sales trends, and operational KPIsDatabase management — comfort working with or migrating legacy systems (we have a mature Access database supporting job costing that needs a modern path forward)General IT decision-making — evaluating SaaS tools, managing system integrations, and being the person who understands how data flows across the businessEvaluate and deploy new technology tools that improve efficiency and visibilityAct as the internal resource for finance and operations technology decisionsOperations SupportSupport estimating functions with analytical models and pricing dataPartner with department heads to provide financial insight that drives better decisionsIdentify process improvements and take initiative to implement themWhat Makes You Right for This Position7+ years as a Controller or senior accounting manager, ideally in manufacturing, or constructionYou've worked in a job cost environment and understand WIPYou've managed multi-state sales tax — not just filed returns, but actively monitored nexus thresholds and evaluated tax treatment on complex transactionsYou have real, hands-on experience with ERP systems (Business Central strongly preferred; Sage 100, Sage 300, or similar ERP migration experience is a plus)You're genuinely fluent in Excel at an advanced level — Power Query, INDEX-MATCH/XLOOKUP, dynamic arrays, and building workbooks that other people can actually useYou've built reports or dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or a similar tool — not just consumed themYou're comfortable with databases — whether that's Access, SQL, Dataverse, or something else, you understand relational data and can work with it directlyYou have California employment law knowledge or the willingness to get up to speed quicklyYou don't wait to be told something is broken.
