Mechanical Engineer
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager within the Engineering department, The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for combining knowledge of design, engineering and manufacturing processes, the mechanical engineer will create functional lighting products. Design work will be accomplished through the use of CAD/CAM programs. They may direct or conduct tests in order to determine whether their products meet all requirements, then document the results. Mechanical engineers must often meet with members of various departments within the organization in order to review prototypes or discuss required design modifications
Responsibilities:
Meet with suppliers and potential suppliers and conduct research to stay abreast of the latest LED and component offerings
Assist in the supplier selection process by creating and performing tests to evaluate and verify that products meet vendor claims and our internal requirements
Help perform/organize cost parameters and budgets and make design decisions accordingly (and/or shares with team)
Design concepts that continually take into account manufacturing, secondary processing and assembly considerations as well as customer user experience
Help address field service complaints and troubleshoot production and manufacturing issues
Participate in our product development cross-functional meetings
Help our marketing team prepare literature and tradeshows
Documentation of bills of material and assembly drawings
Train/educate production staff, customer service and technical support on your products
Work closely with our overseas partners through email/phone (daily) and in-person (average one to two trips annually)
Be present in the workplace to effectively elaborate and communicate amongst co-works and teams

Requirements:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering
A minimum of 3-5 years of full-time experience in Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical design of architectural lighting products, including decorative, recessed and task luminaires – with a particular focus on integrating LED and other innovative technologies
3D and 2D documentation of all design work; Both Solidworks and Pro/E CREO preferred, but prior experience using an alternative software package is acceptable
Experience designing parts for and comparative understanding of die casting, plastic injection molding deep draw, precision machining, sheet metal fabrication and stamping
Experience with BOM creation; with ERP systems like JD Edwards a plus
Knowledge of UL and ETL standards and listing requirements a plus
Ability to work cross-functionally, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customers
Capacity to utilize effective time management skills and be able to work under the stress of multiple deadlines, requests from other departments, and interruptions with accuracy
Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals with minimal supervision or direction
Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills
25% International and Domestic Travel
Compensation Range: $75,000 - $80,000
