Senior Research Associate I, Protein Sciences

Summary:Pheast is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Senior Research Associate to join the Protein Sciences group. This candidate will routinely express and purify antibodies and other recombinant proteins using mammalian tissue culture and AKTA chromatography systems. In addition, they may perform related protein biochemistry experiments, molecular biology tasks, and other functions. The candidate will collaborate closely with other members of the Protein Science team, and as needed with members in the Biology, Discovery, and Translational Science groups. There will be many opportunities to learn new skills, furthering professional growth and development at a fast-growing biotechnology startup. This position will report to a senior scientist in the Protein Sciences group.Responsibilities (position responsibilities may include, but are not limited to):Support research organization by performing all aspects of protein productionPerform mammalian cell culture including transient transfectionsWeekly purification of multiple antibodies and recombinant proteins using conventional chromatographic separation techniques on AKTA systemsTroubleshoot common production challenges such as poor expression, low recovery, separation of mis-assemblies, and morePerform quality assessment utilizing a variety of techniques, such as SDS-PAGE, SEC-HPLC, endotoxin assay, etc.Keep detailed and organized records of experimentsOrganize data for sharing at weekly group meetingsQualifications:BS/MS in biology/biochemistry/microbiology or related field, 3+ years of relevant industry experienceProficient in the use of AKTA for protein purificationMammalian tissue culture experienceDemonstrated proficiency with various modes of chromatography, including affinity, IEX, and SECProtein characterization techniques such as UV spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, analytical SEC, endotoxin assays, etc.Ability to prioritize tasks and employ effective time management strategiesAbility to keep well-organized and clear records of experiments with excellent attention to detailBasic understanding of molecular biologyAbility to quickly learn new skills and strong critical thinkingStrong oral and written communication skillsPrevious experience in the biopharma industryPheast is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity.
