They run a large, diversified hauling fleet and operate on a genuine safety-first culture, with real investment in their people, their equipment, and the communities they serve.THE OPPORTUNITYThis is a hands-on leadership role owning maintenance across the hauling fleet - residential, frontload, and commercial trucks running varied diesel platforms. You'll lead the Lead Mechanics at each site, partner with a Maintenance Supervisor, and keep the fleet safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant while controlling parts, fuel, and maintenance spend. The client is intentionally seeking an external leader with a fresh perspective - someone who leads from the shop floor, runs a disciplined preventive maintenance program, and puts safety before schedule.WHAT YOU'LL OWNLead and supervise all maintenance staff and shop operations across hauling sitesSchedule and manage preventive maintenance and repairs to keep the fleet road-readyDrive preventive maintenance program performance across residential, frontload, and commercial trucksEnsure DOT, OSHA, safety, and company compliance standards are met in everyMaintain accurate inspection, maintenance, and safety records Coordinate equipment and fleet availability with Operations leadershipConduct safety meetings and enforce safety policies - safety before scheduleManage parts inventory, fuel usage, and the maintenance budgetOversee shop cleanliness, appearance, and facility upkeepRecruit, train, evaluate, develop, and discipline Lead Mechanics and maintenance staffWHAT YOU BRINGStrong fleet management background across mixed truck and diesel engine typesHands-on diesel engine maintenance expertise (varied truck/engine platforms)Proven leadership of preventive maintenance programsP&L basics - managing parts, fuel, and maintenance spend to budgetSafety-first leadership mindset with DOT and OSHA compliance experienceDOT certification for air brake and annual vehicle inspectionsValid CDL, or ability to obtain within 6 monthsHigh School Diploma or GEDWilling to travel ~50%, up to 100% temporarily based on operational needsAble to work in a shop environment (weather, noise); lift up to 50 lbs regularly and 100 lbs occasionallyNICE TO HAVEPrior supervisory experience in a maintenance or shop environmentMulti-site fleet maintenance leadership experienceEnvironmental services / solid waste industry backgroundWHY THIS ROLEMulti-site fleet maintenance leadership with real ownershipSafety-first operation with genuine investment in people and equipmentMandate to bring a fresh, external perspectiveBacked by a large, growing North American environmental services platform
