Heavy Equipment Operator

The Equipment Operator should have the ability to operate the following equipment when required: bulldozers, excavators, skid steers and front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers and compactors, forklifts, tractors, small trenchers, etc. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment. Will be required to work in a plant operations or construction job site setting.Responsibilities Understand danger zones and hazards for others on the ground working around the operating equipmentInterpret hand signals to determine where materials are to be placedWork with spotters and flaggers to ensure safety is maintained and hazards are avoided and/or mitigated while operating equipmentPerform minor maintenance or cleaning activities for tools and equipment Perform daily inspections on equipment including checking fluids, refueling, adding fluids, and assessing component wear.Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisorsPrepare and level surfaces to specificationsAssist other craft workers as neededBe proactive in all areas of safety and recognize potential safety issues and hazardsQualificationsMust be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs.Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legsHand/eye coordination, depth perception importantMust be able to drive cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipmentMust be able to communicate (hear, comprehend, and speak) to safely perform workWill need to be able to perform sedentary to heavy workMay operate hand and power tools (electric, gas, and pneumatic) of all typesClimb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and equipmentRequired to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basisPosition may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and liftingMust be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.May be required to work in confined spacesMust have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervisionTalking, reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policyWork at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractionsDecision making skills necessaryDetail oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe detailsWork EnvironmentThe job will primarily be on or around outdoor construction sites in petrochemical and/or refining operational units and include possible hazardous environments such as confined spaces and working at heights. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, irritants, and smoke may occur. Special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be necessary to control some hazardous environments. Additional forms of PPE may be required depending on the particular project. Safety requirements must be verified and meet standards set forth by client permits, policies and procedures, and be performed in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws or ordinances before work activities can begin.Powered by ExactHire: 190862
