Fire Fighter Apprentice
Fire Rescue Service Apprentice This position is designed to offer training and experience to individuals who are actively pursuing a career in fire rescue service. Apprentice Fire Rescue personnel are assigned to a shift under the supervision of a Captain where they will perform duties commensurate with their training, including but not limited to emergency response, facility and apparatus maintenance, training, public education, and community outreach. Qualified candidates must be a licensed Florida Firefighter OR EMT. They will function as singly-certified Firefighter OR EMT while they are pursuing dual-certification or licensure as a Paramedic. Individuals may hold the position of apprentice for no longer than 24 calendar months, at which time they may be offered employment as a dually-certified Firefighter/EMT, a Paramedic, or their employment may be terminated. Apprentices may be eligible to receive tuition assistance from the county with a minimum 2-year commitment. Qualified applicants will possess and maintain the following training, certifications, and abilities: High School diploma or acceptable equivalent Valid Florida Driver's License State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician Certification OR Florida Firefighter II Certification Certificate of completion of an approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Ability to pass FBI Background Check Ability to pass pre-employment firefighter physical and drug screening. Full Time: Minimum starting salary is $46,155/year ($15/hour for 2,912 scheduled hours per year including built-in overtime) plus a generous benefits package with a potential value of up to $23,000 annually. Full-time employee benefits include employer sponsored health insurance ($5/month employee only, $305/month whole family), 25% employer contribution to Florida Retirement System, Paid Time Off including holiday, vacation, sick, parental, and bereavement leave. Shift schedule is 48-on/96-off with overtime calculated weekly.
