Heavy Equipment Operator II

SummaryResponsible for operating heavy equipment and other vehicles for the purpose of excavating, processing, compacting substances on a daily basis. Also, responsible for the efficient operation and care of assigned equipment. This position will normally operate a bulldozer, compactor, or excavator in addition to water truck, dump truck, roll-off truck at the landfill site.Pay Range: $19.92 - $24.95 ( Depending on qualifications and experience)Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesMaintain the functionality, appearance and safety of the work area or facilities in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.Excavate and haul cover materials for construction.Build, grade and clean roads and parking areas to maintain appearance and safety.Build run on/ run off beams to control water runoff.Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.Perform pre-trip/ post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily work sheet for equipment operated.Keep work location and vehicle in order.Resolve customer inquiries.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)2 years related experience with a variety of solid waste and other automotive equipmentClass C Texas driver’s licenseAbility to lift 50 pounds or more several times dailyOr an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Preferred QualificationsEducation/ Experience:Six months additional training past the high school level2-4 years experience with a variety of heavy earth moving or automotive equipmentClass A TCEQ Municipal Solid Waste license or ability to obtain within 1 year of employmentKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesConsiderable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of vehiclesConsiderable knowledge of the principles, operation, and servicing of heavy equipmentSkill to operate controls for required equipmentAbility to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment, and materialsAbility to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipmentAbility to read and understand operator’s manualLicenses and CertificationsValid Class C Texas driver's licenseCompletion of a defensive driving coursePhysical Requirements / Work EnvironmentThe incumbent works primarily in a vehicle; with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. 8-10 hours drive time on a daily basis in all weather conditions. Must possess sufficient vision to accurately read written and typed documents.
