Powder Coat Prep Technician

Position Summary We are looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented Powder Coat Prep Technician to join our production team. In this role, you will be the "last line of defense" for quality control before our trailers move to the final coating stage. You will be responsible for smoothing out welds, removing surface imperfections, and ensuring every trailer is chemically and physically ready for a high-quality powder finish. Key Responsibilities Metal Finishing: Use handheld angle grinders and wire wheels to remove weld spatter, burrs, and sharp edges from fabricated steel trailers. Surface Preparation: Sand and smooth designated areas to ensure optimal powder adhesion. Washing & Degreasing: Perform thorough pressure washing and chemical pretreatment of trailers to remove oils, dust, and debris. Quality Inspection: Visually inspect trailers for missed welds or surface defects before they enter the powder booth. Material Handling: Safely move trailers into the wash bay and staging areas using manual dollies or shop equipment. Shop Safety: Maintain a clean work area and strictly follow safety protocols regarding PPE (eye protection, respirators, and gloves). Qualifications Experience: No prior experience required; we will train the right candidate. Previous experience with power tools or in a shop environment is a plus. Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for 8+ hours, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks involving grinding and scrubbing. Attention to Detail: You take pride in seeing a smooth, clean piece of metal and understand how prep work affects the final product. Reliability: Consistent attendance and a "get it done" attitude. Work Environment This is a fast-paced industrial shop environment. Exposure to noise, dust, and water (protective gear is provided). Standard Shift: M-T, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
