Wunderlich Malec recently opened a new 60,000sqft manufacturing facility in Baldwin, FL (suburb of Jacksonville, FL). This facility is primarily focused on manufacturing and fabrication of electrical control panels and modular buildings for the electric utility and industrial electrical markets as an extension of our successful Winslow, ME facility, in operation since 2004.
The Technical Services Manager & Project Manager ensures that all electrical & mechanical drawings from customers are thoroughly analyzed and verified. This role is responsible for ensuring the Bill of Materials (BOM) is accurate and complete and for preparing detailed shop floor fabrication documentation and instructions for fabrication and assembly. The Technical Services Manager & Project Manager plays a critical role in translating designs into actionable instructions for electrical and mechanical technicians and coordinating with various departments to resolve issues and streamline production processes. The role also involves managing all aspects of assigned projects and acting as customer interface for those assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities – Technical Services
Manage all technical documentation and manufacturing engineering support for electrical panel and modular building production
Lead drawing reviews, BOM validation, and fabrication instruction development
Establish documentation standards, traveler systems, and quality checkpoints
Partner with Production, Quality, and Project Management to ensure on-time, error-free builds
Mentor technicians and junior engineers on documentation and fabrication standards
Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical production issues
Support hiring and development of future technical services team members
Key Responsibilities – Project Management Under direction of Operations Manager, assist with daily operations and activities of projects ranging in size from $50k to $5.0M +. Responsibilities include ensuring overall profitability of assigned projects with a strong focus on schedule and scope management.
Develop skills in reading and interpreting technical and commercial contracts
Develop skills in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
Ensures that all project team members clearly understand the scope of WM responsibilities on assigned projects
Assists with developing and maintaining standard communication and technical documentation for project implementation (RFIs, Transmittals, Submittals, Change Requests, Project Plans, Status Updates, etc.)
Develops and maintains project schedules per WM and customer requirement
Evaluates progress on project(s) and details change
Responsible for all purchasing and subcontractor requirements for assigned project
Responsible for development of costs and proposal of change orders to contract scop
Negotiates change orders to comply with customer and contract requirement
Develops and implements a cash flow plan for the project including A/R collection
Provides timely financial forecasts on costs, budgets, C/O’s and schedule
Serves as WM’s primary interface with the customer during the implementation phase of assigned project
Ensures compliance with all regulations, codes etc. as they apply to the contract and project(s)
Travel up to 5% to pre-bid meetings and customer meetings
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related discipline (BSEE preferred). Associates degree and significant experience will be considered
PE certification preferred but not required
PMP certification preferred but not required
Required Skills and Qualifications
Strong attention to detail and high levels of organization
Effective leadership and communication skills for cross-department collaboration
Ability to analyze complex electrical drawings and specifications
Team-oriented mindset and openness to learning new processes
Preferred Experience
Background in electrical utility protection and control systems
Experience working with electric utility companies or in related industries
5 – 7+ years of experience in electrical project management, panel manufacturing, technical services roles, and/or quality roles
