Fabrication Technician - Full Time - Peoria
Position OverviewComprehensive Prosthetics & Orthotics is seeking a Fabrication Technician in Peoria, Illinois to support the hands-on fabrication, modification, and repair of custom prosthetic and orthotic devices. This role is a strong fit for someone with mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience working with tools, machinery, fabrication materials, or hands-on technical processes in a lab, manufacturing, automotive, construction, carpentry, machining, composites, dental lab, or medical device environment.The Fabrication Technician works closely with clinicians and lab team members to produce high-quality prosthetic and orthotic devices that directly support patient mobility, comfort, and independence. This position involves interpreting work orders, measurements, and fabrication instructions; modifying molds; working with materials such as plaster, thermoplastics, laminations, metals, composites, and prosthetic and orthotic componentry; and operating specialized tools and fabrication equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building, shaping, problem-solving, and producing meaningful work that has a direct impact on patient outcomes.Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesFabricate, modify, and repair prosthetic and orthotic devices according to clinician specifications, work orders, measurement forms, and fabrication instructions.Prepare, modify, and shape plaster molds and positive models to support the fabrication of custom prosthetic and orthotic devices.Work with a variety of fabrication materials, including thermoplastics, laminations, metals, foam, composite materials, and prosthetic and orthotic componentry.Operate fabrication machinery, hand tools, and specialized equipment safely and effectively, including ovens, grinders, routers, vacuum systems, and related lab equipment.Read and accurately follow technical documentation, measurements, work orders, and fabrication instructions to ensure devices are completed to specification.Inspect completed devices for quality, durability, fit, finish, and function before delivery to the clinical team.Perform adjustments, repairs, finishing work, and modifications as needed to support patient care and production timelines.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment in compliance with safety, infection control, and quality standards.Collaborate with clinicians, technicians, and other team members to ensure timely completion of devices while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship.Follow all applicable safety procedures, quality control expectations, and organizational policies.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredStrong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterityAbility to read and understand work measurement forms and fabrication instructionsEffective organizational, time management, and planning skillsStrong interpersonal and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamPreferred QualificationsPrior experience in a certified prosthetics and orthotics laboratory or clinical fabrication environmentDemonstrated experience in prosthetic and/or orthotic fabrication, preferably with a focus on lower extremity devicesExperience working with plaster, molds, and shaping techniquesFamiliarity with lamination techniques, thermoplastic forming, and composite materialsUnderstanding of quality control principles in prosthetic and orthotic manufacturingCompensation & BenefitsBase Pay: $18 per hour, based on experience, skill level, and demonstrated fabrication proficiencyThis position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support employee health, financial security, and work-life balance.
