Summer Camp Bus Driver

Bus DriverThe Bus Driver will be responsible for the daily transporting of program participants to various locations. The driver is also responsible for the operation and up-keep of the buses leased by the YMCA.
This position is seasonal (from May 11, 2026 - August 7, 2026). If you wish to continue employment with the Y after the season ends, you will need to apply with the desired department.
Applicant must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid class C, CDL Illinois driver's licenses with a passenger endorsement. The applicant will be required to present a copy of their driving record, medical card, and a copy of their driver license. This position requires the incumbent to possess good organizational skills and above average human relationship skills. Must possess the ability to make sound decisions and have a minimum of a high school diploma. CPR/AED certification is required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
The employee must be able to meet the physical demands of operating a bus.
Major responsibilities
Follow the daily bus schedule to the proper places and times designated on the schedule. Please note that drivers will be working between two camp routes in Mahomet and in Champaign.
Enforce rules and utilize the YMCA core values (honesty, caring, respect and responsibility) in a way that results in positive behavior and positive social development for program participants.
Responsible for the safety of the program participants and staff on the bus at all times.
Responsible for monitoring and coordinating the maintenance of the buses. Report any issues or concerns to supervisor immediately for further communication to the bus leaser.
Keep all CDL certifications current, as required by the State of Illinois.
Responsible for the orderly arrangement and appearance of the buses.
Make sure busses always have proper level of fluids and emergency equipment is on the buses at all times.
Keep bus clean and orderly.
Turn time cards in on time.
Alert supervisor of any personal schedule changes that will affect the operation of the bus.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings, conferences and in-house trainings.
Adhere to the rules and policies of the YMCA and community at large.
Other duties necessary for a job well done.
