Student Success Coach, Sports Academy - $60,000/year USD
This position is for someone who wants to coach student-athletes—not teach them. There are no lesson plans to write, no assignments to grade, and no content to present. What remains is the core of coaching: building accountability, establishing trust, and helping someone exceed their own expectations. At Texas Sports Academy, we operate a virtual program where student-athletes progress through self-paced academic applications while building life skills in parallel with their athletic development. Each week, your cohort participates in virtual one-on-one and small-group sessions led by you. You set priorities, maintain accountability, and identify disengagement early. The quality of your sessions depends entirely on your ability to show up with presence and earn trust—not on the material displayed on screen. The work breaks down into three components: coaching sessions that maintain student momentum, proactive responses when progress metrics reveal a concern, and facilitated virtual workshops focused on mindset and life skills. You will work fully remotely from Texas, with in-person gatherings each quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio. If you have experience coaching or mentoring students or athletes, and the most rewarding moments came from seeing someone break through a self-imposed ceiling, we encourage you to apply. What You Will Be DoingFacilitating virtual one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions to help student-athletes clarify priorities, sustain accountability, and remain engagedReviewing progress data from learning platforms and spotting signs of disengagement or performance gaps before they escalateTaking direct action when a student begins to fall behind—modifying your strategy, restoring momentum, and guiding recoveryFacilitating structured virtual workshops on mindset, life skills, and personal growth, where active engagement is the key indicator of effectivenessEarning trust with each student-athlete so that accountability feels collaborative rather than punitiveWhat You Won’t Be DoingTeaching curriculum or providing academic instruction—students navigate self-directed apps independently; your role centers on engagement and executionManaging grades, designing lesson plans, or overseeing course frameworksReacting only after students raise concerns—you interpret data and step in proactivelyConducting sessions where attendance is high but participation is lowStudent Success Coach Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure that virtual student-athletes stay engaged, make consistent academic progress, and develop the life skills required to thrive beyond their coursework.Basic RequirementsYou have experience coaching or mentoring students or athletes, whether paid or volunteerYou have facilitated group sessions for students or athletes for a minimum of 6 monthsYou have worked in a capacity where goal-setting and outcome tracking were part of your role—and you can provide supporting data (completion rates, performance gains, or equivalent metrics)You are proficient in running virtual sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and have experience using a spreadsheet, LMS, or comparable tool to monitor participant progressYou have used an AI tool—Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, or similar—at least once and can describe the applicationYou are located in Texas and able to participate in one in-person event each quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San AntonioYou are authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorshipNice-to-have RequirementsFamiliarity with learning management systems (Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or similar) or tools designed for tracking academic progressSkill in tailoring your coaching style to varied motivational types—you recognize when to challenge, when to ease off, and when to simply listenAbout Sports AcademyTexas Sports Academy is Where Future Champions Excel in Academics and AthleticsTraditional schools force student-athletes to choose between excelling in academics or committing to their sport.
