Summer Camp Counselor

Position OverviewThe Children’s Guild’s Monarch Academy Annapolis program is seeking enthusiastic high school students to join our summer basketball camp program as Basketball Camp Counselors. This is a temporary, seasonal position that provides valuable experience working with youth in a structured athletic and recreational setting. The ideal candidate is energetic, responsible, has an interest in basketball, and enjoys engaging with school-aged children.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist lead coaches in implementing daily basketball drills, skill-building exercises, and camp activitiesHelp supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety at all timesPrepare and organize equipment and materials for drills, games, and camp activitiesAssist with snack and lunch breaks, ensuring proper hygiene practicesHelp with gym and court setup, cleanup, and equipment organizationHelp monitor campers during rest and water breaksAssist with escorting campers to and from different activity areasSupport campers with basic needs (e.g., first aid awareness, hydration, bathroom breaks)Build positive relationships with campers and help foster a fun, inclusive environmentParticipate in daily staff meetings and weekly planning sessionsDocument and communicate any concerns about campers to the lead coach or principalAssist with parent drop-off and pick-up proceduresQualificationsQualificationsMust be a high school student (rising sophomore, junior, or senior)Interest in or experience with basketball preferred but not requiredStrong communication skills and ability to follow directionsResponsible, reliable, and punctualEnthusiastic and positive attitudeAbility to work well in a team environmentHigh energy level and stamina for active daysAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding children and familiesPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, bend, sit, and interact with children for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 25 poundsComfort with outdoor activities in various weather conditionsRequired DocumentationBackground check and CPS clearanceValid work permit if under age 18Proof of eligibility to work in the United StatesBenefitsValuable work experience in youth athletics and recreationMentorship from experienced coaches and educators
