Overview
The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in the company's financial reporting and accounting close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial results. This position is part of the Accounting Close and General Ledger team and reports to the Assistant Controller and would manage a team of 3-5 Senior and Staff Accountants.
Working closely with the Assistant Controller, Controller, CFO, and other senior finance leaders, the Accounting Manager will oversee key accounting processes, coordinate with the offshore accounting team in India, and partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Treasury, and Operations to deliver complete and reliable financial information.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, public accounting experience, and financial services industry knowledge. This individual will demonstrate accountability, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset while driving process improvements and maintaining a strong internal control environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
Manage the monthly accounting close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules for key balance sheet and income statement accounts
Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure all transactions comply with U.S. GAAP and company policies
Review and analyze monthly financial results and support variance analysis for management and FP&A reporting
Support preparation of quarterly and year-end audit deliverables and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury. and Operations to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of business activities
Work closely with the offshore accounting team in India to coordinate close deliverables, reconciliations, and reporting
Support other Finance teams by providing insight and context into financial performance and accounting treatment
Partner closely with FP&A to align on financial results, forecasts, and performance trends
Process Improvement & Controls
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen internal controls
Support implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools
Ensure compliance with internal control policies and participate in ongoing control documentation and testing efforts
Drive consistency, accuracy, and standardization across accounting procedures and reporting templates
Leadership
Mentor and support staff within the accounting organization, fostering collaboration and accountability
Exhibit a continuous improvement mindset and contribute to a culture of operational excellence
Maintain awareness of new accounting standards and evaluate their potential impact on company financials
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred

-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in public accounting (Big 4 or regional firm experience preferred)
Experience in financial services or mortgage servicing industry highly desirable
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, and internal controls
Experience collaborating with offshore or shared service accounting teams preferred
Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
Experience with Sage Mas 500 and TM1 a plus
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Requirements:
Manager Accounting
Use accounting knowledge and professional acumen to accurately analyze and journalize accounting transactions. Manage and complete monthly accounting close responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner. Demonstrate independence and responsibility in managing assigned duties and problem solving. Willingly share knowledge and assist others and demonstrate positive teamwork. Skillfully communicate with others to understand and resolve transaction variances and reconcile accounting records.
Position Responsibilities:
Prepare, manage, and review GAAP, regulatory, and internal financial statements, reports, schedules, and supporting data components
Judgmentally and independently analyze and evaluate complex revenue and expense activity
Work independently to prepare and record journal entries to properly reflect underlying transactions while adhering to deadlines
Prepare monthly G/L account reconciliations and account variance analysis of financial statement accounts including service fees
Independently research and resolve G/L or other accounting discrepancies and interact professionally and appropriately with other accounting personnel or other departments to facilitate timely resolution
Prepare ad hoc reports, presentations, or analysis for the Asst. Controller and Controller
Maintain good communication with upper management and all other relevant departments to ensure successful completion of Accounting's duties
Propose and implement internal controls. Identify best practices and assist in developing performance measurements. Develop and document operating procedures to improve business processes.
Perform month-end Accounting duties and other special projects under strict deadlines, including ad hoc requests

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other closely-related field
Five years' experience applying accounting principles and theories (some public accounting audit experience preferred)
Proficient with Microsoft Office products with emphasis in Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cross functionally
Ability to organize and arrange time and schedule to complete all assigned tasks, both recurring and ad hoc, during the month-end reporting cycle
