Chief Operating Officer

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) in Research is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the organization's research operations. The COO ensures seamless integration of strategic objectives, operational excellence, and compliance in all research activities. To consistently embody AMR’s Core Values:Excellence and ConsistencyCollaborative InnovationRespect for our Subjects, Sponsors, and Team MembersCommunityUnimpeachable EthicsThe Chief Operating Officer will report to the Board of Directors.Classification: ExemptPrimary Responsibilities:Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership to develop and implement the organization’s research and operational strategies.Drive organizational growth by identifying and capitalizing on emerging research opportunities.Drive strategic goals into actionable plans and initiatives. Oversee the daily operations of research functions, including clinical trials, data management, and regulatory compliance. Establish and refine operational processes, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and alignment with industry standards.Implement performance metrics to monitor progress and drive continuous improvement.Manage research budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial goals.Collaborate with finance teams to forecast costs, manage funding, and ensure financial sustainability.Build and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration.Mentor and develop department leaders, ensuring alignment with organizational values and goals.Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the research teams.Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including sponsors, regulatory agencies, and academic collaborators.Represent the organization in industry forums, conferences, and strategic partnerships.Ensure all research activities comply with regulatory requirements and ethical standards.Drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to enhance research efficiency and quality.Evaluate and implement systems to streamline operations, such as clinical trial management systems (CTMS) and data analytics platforms. Desired Skills and Qualifications:Advanced degree (MD, PhD, MBA, or equivalent) in a relevant field is preferred15+ years’ experience in research operations5+ years in a senior leadership role. Experiences in managing global operations and multidisciplinary teams. Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills. Financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and negotiating contracts. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Fluent in English.
