HR Generalist

WHO WE ARE: Heelstone Renewable Energy is a utility-scale solar and battery storage developer headquartered in Durham, NC with expertise in originating, financing, constructing, and operating solar photovoltaic projects. Heelstone has developed and achieved commercial operation on more than 80 solar projects with an aggregate generating capacity exceeding 1 GW. Heelstone has partnered with Qualitas Energy, to fund its development platform and transition to an Independent Power Producer (IPP). For more information, please visit www.heelstoneenergy.com. POSITION SUMMARY: Heelstone is looking for an HR Generalist who will provide comprehensive support for the company’s human resources functions including talent acquisition, benefits administration, compliance with federal and state regulations, payroll, and performance management. This role requires a hands-on adaptable professional with a broad understanding of HR processes and experience in fast-paced environments. This is a hybrid position located in Durham, North Carolina.  RESPONSIBILITIESRecruitment & Onboarding: Support the recruitment process by assisting in job postings, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and onboarding new hires to ensure a smooth integration.Employee Relations: Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries, help address concerns, and assist with conflict resolution to foster a positive workplace environment.HR Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws, as well as company policies and procedures. Assist with audits and reporting as needed.HR Administration: Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system, manage employee documentation, and support administrative tasks related to payroll, benefits, and leave management. Support the employee off-boarding process.Performance Management: Assist in coordinating performance reviews and development plans, helping managers ensure employees receive timely feedback and support.Training & Development: Assist in organizing training programs and professional development initiatives, helping to foster skill-building and career growth for employees.Benefits: Assist in the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, 401(k) plans, and other employee perks.Workplace Safety: Collaborate with the Construction and Operations teams to promote and enforce project site safety standards. Implement and oversee safety procedures for office-based employees, fostering a safe working environment.Payroll Administration: Process employee payroll through outside payroll vendor, ensuring timely and accurate salary payments, tax withholdings, and benefits deductions. Collect timesheets from hourly employees and ensure all documentation is appropriately saved and filed. Employee Engagement: Support employee engagement initiatives, events, and communication strategies to promote a strong company culture.Special Projects: Support special HR projects as assigned. SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIESMust be able to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.High level of initiative and passion for learningAbility to handle multiple tasks with competing prioritiesAbility to create processes and workflows to streamline tasksStrategic thinker with creative problem-solving skillsStrong communication skills – written and verbalHighly organized with attention to detail  EDUCATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in human resources or related field from an accredited college or university preferred or commensurate work experience.3-5 years of experience as an HR Generalist or similar role; experience in the energy or renewable energy industry is a plus. Proficiency in Office 365, MS-Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, HRIS systems, etc.Experience with BambooHR preferred.Experience with administration of group benefit plans and the rules/regulations surrounding them.Experience with hiring best practices.Experience processing payroll and various wage and hour laws.SHRM-CP or PHR preferred. Total Rewards PackageHeelstone offers a family-friendly culture with a hybrid schedule of 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home.
