SQL Server Database Engineer

Role: SQL Server Database EngineerLocation: Remote 100%Duration: 6 Months Contract Job SummaryWe are looking for an experienced Database Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premises) to design, optimize, and maintain high-performance database systems. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on knowledge of SQL optimization, SQL Server internals, and performance troubleshooting.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases in an on-premises environment.Write and optimize complex T-SQL queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) for high performance.Perform advanced query tuning, indexing strategies, and statistics management.Analyze and resolve performance issues related to locking, blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention.Monitor and tune SQL Server internals including memory management, Page Life Expectancy (PLE), buffer pool, and wait statistics.Diagnose and troubleshoot database performance problems using execution plans, DMVs, Extended Events, and system monitoring tools.Maintain database structure, tables, indexes, partitions, and overall database health.Implement best practices for database design, normalization, and data integrity.Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure optimal database performance and availability.Document database designs, performance issues, and resolution steps.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premises).Excellent T-SQL skills with proven experience in query optimization (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, and complex SELECT statements).Deep knowledge of indexing strategies, statistics, and query execution plans.Solid understanding of SQL Server internals (memory architecture, buffer pool, Page Life Expectancy, tempdb, etc.).Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving locking, blocking, and deadlock issues.Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.Good understanding of database structure, table design, and overall database architecture.Preferred SkillsExperience with SQL Server Always On, Clustering, or High Availability solutions.Exposure to performance baseline and capacity planning.Soft SkillsStrong analytical and troubleshooting mindset.Ability to work independently and take ownership of database issues.Good communication skills to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
