Railway Systems Specialist

This position can be based out of any of our Toronto offices, with flexibility to attend project or client sites as required by project need. The position is a senior-level opportunity to lead design and technical assurance of large, complex railway projects and serve as a mentor to our broader engineering and design staff.This role is suited to an experienced licenced Professional Engineer with deep expertise in railway systems and a proven track record of sealing complex infrastructure designs.Role accountabilities:The successful candidate will lead the design, assurance and integration of transit systems across multiple disciplines, ensuring that all solutions are aligned with project goals and client requirements. This role requires a strategic approach to system development and a deep understanding of transit operations, testing, commissioning and stakeholder needs.You will coordinate closely with civil, systems, and construction teams to ensure the seamless integration of systems into the broader infrastructure. Effective collaboration between disciplines is essential for achieving robust, interoperable transit networks.Ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations is a critical aspect of the role. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality and safety throughout the design and assurance process, meeting both industry and client expectations.Uphold Arcadis Quality Management System and ensure deliverables are produced in accordance with project and applicable industry standards,The position involves managing design schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure that project milestones are achieved. Proactive management and effective prioritization are key to delivering projects on time and within budget.Regular engagement with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies is necessary to facilitate approvals and resolve technical issues. Strong communication skills and the ability to address stakeholder concerns are essential for successful project delivery.You will lead design reviews, risk assessments, and quality assurance activities to maintain the integrity and reliability of the overall system as well as resolving complex technical issues and provide guidance on engineering solutions. These processes help identify potential issues early and ensure that project outcomes are both safe and effective.The role includes mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical leadership and innovation across the team. Your guidance will support professional development, foster a culture of excellence, and drive the adoption of cutting-edge practices within the organisation.Qualifications & Experience:* Minimum 20 years of progressive engineering experience in design for major rail and transit projects, preferably within Canada.* Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary transit system integration and interface management is required. The successful candidate is likely to have a design background in a railway system discipline (track, signalling, OSC, traction power, etc.).* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline; Master's degree is an asset.* P.Eng. license in Ontario is required.* In-depth knowledge of Canadian railway design standards and regulations, Transport Canada Railway Safety Act, CSA standards, AREMA and Metrolinx/GO Technical standards.* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.* Exposure to alternate project delivery models including AFP. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
